I am having issues with a loss of sound quality folks. My setup is as follows: PC, MPC1000, Motif6.

When I record audio into Nuendo or any other application like Ableton, the result is not the same as what it sounds like coming directly from the MPC. The sound quality sucks to say the least! My conclusion is that its my lame sound card which is nothing more than a soundblaster piece of trash. But perhaps it is something simple like a setting change. Can anyone assist?

The sound that I am getting back is like a digitized rendering of what was in my MPC, not the full sounding finished work that I want.

are you monitoring from the pc?

sounds like a silly question but not sure if you mentioned where you monitor source is coming from-

ultimately you dont want to listen to the sound going tin to your pc but the one coming out.

I am monitoring the the sound that is coming out of the PC not that which is going in. Its kind of annoying man, is there some settings in the Audio Prefs that I should change? Do you think the sound card is the problem?

right a few more details- what sound blaster? if it's a 1024 yeah they are cheap but they are not crap and with 16bit recording the recording should be the same as what you are hearing from your monitors.

What mixer are you using?

Not sure which version of soundblaster i believe its the 5.1 digital version. But to be on the safe side we can assume that its the cheap one. In regards to a mixer (hardware I don't have one), I am using Nuendo so the internal mixer within the application is what I am using.

I didn't have this problem before it just appeared out of no where. Even when I sample from the internet into my MPC I get this digitized sound or if I download a song the downlaoded version sounds this way as well. Strange!

1. Check to make sure all your Volume controls are set right....(may be a long shot but easter egging problems can turn up minor things that cause major problems) Right Click on the Speaker Icon in your quicklaunch box bottom right hand corner of your screen.

2. If everything in #1 is ok, I would UPDATE the soundcard driver in your Device Manager. If this doesn't fix the problem, try a new sound card. If the problem goes away then you had a bad sound card.
I have gone through several sound cards but my million $$$$ computer (Been rebuilt so many times i got that much $$$ in it). I would exhaust all efforts in the "Settings" dept. before concluding its a bad sound card though.

Nah man, you need a better soundcard.

you can get some M audio delta's cheap used, like under $100, but if you have the cash spring for something like RME (around $500).

The better your soundcard, monitors and listening environment (not necessarily the more expensive) the more your recordings will sound like what you played.

It's the achilles heel in your set up, fix it ASAP.

I've had a soundblaster audigy platinum since they came out, last year changed to digi001. I never had any sound quality issues with it, I still use it mainly.

they are primarily for games, the recording wasn;t really taken to seriously until the audigy, but the emu cards will still whoop it.

I'm guessing you need a dedicated pro audio soundcard....but maybe your music just sux...

there is a reason why a soundblasters is $50 and a apogee is $2500.

absolulety- but he said he only just started to have the problem- therefore the soundcard (if it's working) isn't the problem....check all your settings in whatever seq your recording into; if you have an old project you know recorded well see if you can open that to see if any of the settings are different- what do the meters say when you're recording- are they below 0db?

and obviously having a better sound card means they wont breakdown so it's well worth considering

i have an echo mia midi- not top end but 24 bit and workeds very well- cheap too!
