60/s950

I'm getting a s950 pretty soon. Was wondering how other people use this combo?

Drums on the 60, other samples on the 950?

actually i was really disappointed w/ the filter...but, the timestrech and resampling can do ALOT to dirty up sounds...i ran my drums through the 60 and samples in the 950...i sold mine off allready, didnt get too much use..the 60/950 is dope but im goin for the eps16+ just for a diiferent sound,a little ensoniq magic instead of akai sounds 24-7...

oh yeah the looping can be interesting too... get one w/ mem. i never really needed it but in retrospect it held me back when chopping and resampling..

a good bit of info if you havent heard...the sounds become mono throught hte assignable outs..i couldnt be w/o mono sounds..

set up your param so that you have the midi notes in the right order on the pads...

search too, i started a thread like this when i got mine and there was some good info shared there...

just dont get too excited about the filter...i just use eq and make it fly...it can be nice but its nott too boomin really.... i guessimho it works fine but not up to the 950 hype.....there cheap now though so dont sweat grip ut for cheap and if you odnt feel it....EBAY!

keygroups are something to learn too, cant help you there though..

i love the filter in the 950.

yeah the filter is dope, you just gotta know how to use it, and how to sample into it.

Make sure you review the "recommended bandwidth" chart in the manual before you sample.

I'm keeping the scsi if it has it, but pm me if you want the s950. I'll probably split it up and sell the memory seperate.

I like the filters too, try filtering the 808 kick

the included sine wave can be used as a rough draft for your bass lines.
I like the filter for bass samples, it gives you that Diamond D sound.
overall, one of the easiest samplers to use (keygroups, layering, envelope, velocity split, lfo...), you get started very quickly if you know exactly what you want to do.
it is louder than the 60, and the disk drive is also much faster (I was surprised).
I only have one memory upgrade, which is think is plenty enough, since you'll always need just one disk to save your track. SCSI is therefore not as necessary as on the 60 (with its slooooow DD floppy, which sounds like it's gonna die anytime).
renaming samples can be a little tricky on this one, you can erase stuff easily if you mess up... but once you're used to it no problem.

true that floppy is fast and with the HD disks, really not that annoying

Well I didn't need to buy one. Tic Toc came through with one today. In damn good condition. I had it on for like 5 min. and the shit was sooo confusing. I definately need to print out the manual and read it ASAP.

I can't get the shit to play with my 60. I have the track set to MIDI on the A port channel 1 on the 60 track data shit. s950 is on channel 1. My MIDI cable is on the MIDI Out "A" to the MIDI IN on the 950.

I'm think I'm doing this right but the s950 isn't getting data from the 60.

it works fine. Do you have a sample in the 950 for the 60 to be playing?

Get both manuals out, and do it step by step.

In my opinion, S950 contains the best low pass filter ever designed, hands down. Love that grime around 10%----- right when the shit starts to buzzzzz.
