I thought the same thing, but when you really think about it, its amazing how he found each of the pieces of sound that fit perfectly together, meshing different genres. Also he had limited resources with the MPC 60, etc. Today we have so many possibilites and that somtimes limits us. I think Entroducing exemplifies the art of crate digging and is plain out classic music.

what, no no no??? Im speaking for myself, not some general dictionary talk here! Yes i know that if u would ask some clerk at a record shop about "trip hop" you would probably or may have some suggestions of above mentioned artists. Yes!!

fair enough but a dictionary is a collection of words which have a shared meaning - all the peeps i know wouldn't class shadow as trip hop...the only place ive heard it has been here when someone mentioned it in the past- turned out it was an american media thing-a journo had used the term describing his album and before he knew it he was getting pissed at finding his records in the trip-hop section...

Like i see ure point here, and its a common one when people in majorlabels/journalists try to cut in to something new. The one few artists that originally coined something new, often has moved on when chit hit the fan, in the consumer market.

I hate that word trip hop... I feel like massive attack, tricky and portis where just artists with their own unique vision that didn't really need to be categorized... I don't think any of them would have sat down and said "right... let's make some trip hop"... I love those artists but in my own world they are almost like some really interesting rock music...

and it's even worse when someone at a party says "what's trip hop" and some chinstroker drops not only those 3 obvious names but adds shadow and bjork and krush to the list...

too much labels man!

endtroducing and the stuff on preemptive strike is mos def hip hop music to me... some of the newer stuff is pretty weird tho igotta admit...maybe trip hop is a valid genre tho and I just don't understand because I'm american... you know... maybe it's a uk ting...

but all I know is Ninja Tune is a dope label whatever you want to call the style...

I was never on his jock either but if you seen the movie scratch the man has access to an almost endless cashe of records...thats gotta make things easier , premo too started out an his moms had a huge stock of records from the seventies...my mom did too but we used them has ninja disks
