Monitor Speakers

Are monitor speakers a must? I just bought a MPC 1000 and I don't know much about studio equipment. Do any of you guys know what the best deal under $150 is? Thank's in advance.

How cheap are u talkin bout play boy? U can cop some cheap a!s Roland MA-8's for $89! Or u can cop some Alesis monitor speakers like I have for $399.99 it's your choice but remember u get what u pay for! Yea monitor speakers will play a HUGE roll in your setup! If u have artist[s] there when ur producin a beat it would be nice to hear what ur doin on with the beat ya feel me! Especially if it's a group passin head phones around to everybody just ain't gonna cut it! But if u just doin tracks at yur studio for yurself and ur workin along in yur studio then headphones will do! But I pretty sure with HOT production u will have a studio full of mutha f!ckaz so monitor speakers is a must!

Appreciate it Lab.What do you recommend for $150? I want to keep the cost a little low because I'm buyin' a keyboard pretty so I'm savin' up. Thank's again.

What kind of keyboard are u gonna cop? Get some powered monitor speakers some Alesis MIAKMKII those hit hard as hell but there $399.99 a lil bit out of the buget my fault let's get back into range Roland MA-8's or the Edirol MA-10 for $149.99! Check your GC they might have some used monitor's for cheap!

Well...I still need to do some more research but I think I'm gunna go with the Triton Classic. Any suggestions? I want to keep the keyboard under $2,000, but it'd be sweet if I could get keep it under $1,200. Basically, my studio will be comprised of a Mpc, Keyboard and Computer.

What about the Fantom-S $1499.99 It's pretty tight but I'm waitin on the Fantom-S rack hopefully there will be one at Winter NAMM Jan. 15th but the Triton Classic is cool! My partner has one it's tight but I love my Motif ES ya feel me! But the Triton is nice touch screen and all it's dope!

you MUST have monitors if you are serious in this business. one thing you should learn is never slack on your monitors and cables. those are the 1st rules in this game.
bottome line save up extra and get some good monitors. rememeber no matter what brand monitors you do get you will and must train your ears to them. this will take time and patiences but once you do you will rock. another tip is after you do your mix down with your monitors take it to the headphones and a house speakers then go back n forth to get the best mix downs. a good mix sounds good on all speakers on any eq setting.

BaiChai, what do you recommend? I'm just tryin' to some some suggestions to help me make my final decision.

if you are on a budget as we all are i would recomend the m audio monitors i have. my 1st set. i have to look at them to give you the specific model later tonight. they are excellent. they can be misguiding on the lows but like i said once you train your ears to them you will never miss on your mix downs. i will also dig up a link of a good site that did a side by side comparison and review to all the best monitors out there in our price range. some suprising results.

I've only heard the Samson's, Event's and M-Audio's. I remember thinking the Samson's were a good deal for 219.00, I was impressed by the bass response on the M-Audio's, not bad for a 5" monitor, I liked the Events the best but I think I'm just more used to their sound cuz I own the PS8's and TR8's. I would suggest you take a CD you're familiar with down to your local music store and listen for yourself and see what you like the best.

Also, if you're interested in the Fantom-s check out http://www.riksmusic.com, they had it for 1299.00 a couple of months ago.

The Powered M-Audio BX5 are the ones...$300 at Guitar Center. I really love mine. My old roomate had the Mackie HR828's which I think are amazing but cost $1,200. Both monitors have been used in numerous scoring/post production for big time movies. I'd stay away from the Alesis ones, was about to buy them right before BX5's came out cause they looked pretty flat on paper and Sound On Sound gave it a pretty good review. But two seperate friends had serious problems with blowing the woofers on the Alesis, Alesis fixed it but it happened again to both of the guys! Although both of them make some pretty heavy music (one dubby techno, the other one straight up mad proffesor style).

Great links. Now that i've read them I'm thinking about picking up a pair of monitors.
