I HAVE read the manuals. Maybe I'm retarded.

1. Do you have to hold down a pad to play the sound on the s950? I thought you only had to do that for looping but I have the sound set to "one shot" and I still have to do that. Can't I just press the pad and play the sound instead of holding it?

also,
How can I trigger the s950 without triggering the MPC sounds as well? What I've been doing is sampling drums in 60 and other shit in the 950. And when I record a track with the 950 sounds I record with the track on DRUM and when I'm done I set it to MIDI so it only plays the 950 without playing a drum sound or some shit on the same pad in a 60 prgrm. Is that the right way?

2. The same cable I use to sample from my mixer to my 60, I plugged into the line input of the s950. It's a y cable since they are both mono. When I sample on the 60, I just pan L or R and take which side I want. It works. With the s950, when I pan R, no sound goes into it. When I pan L, everything's ok. Or if I leave it stereo it will only record the L side. Confused...

Other than that I'm getting used to actually using the s950. It's pretty easy once you understand it. It's really cool.

what I do is keep the S950 stuff on pads I don't normally use, like banks c and d that way nothing gets in each others way

for the one shot thing you need to make sure that looping feature is off, also make sure you set the one shot correctly for all the programs

about the left and right jazz, thet s950 plays crazy style, sometimes it's left and if you play the same pad a bunch it'll throw that shit to the other speaker. i forget why, but I use a mixer and have a couple cables going in from the s950 so it's no biggie

the drum midi thing is the way it works when you have sounds on both.

I'm only using one program. How do I turn the looping feature off? I don't know of any other way than by setting it one shot. Is there another menu for it? Maybe I missed something.

That's when you're playing the sounds right? I'm talking about when I'm sampling. It just won't sample the R channel.

check the envelopes in the 950, not sure if it will solve your issue tho.

the cable thing you have to sort out, y cables come in different flavors, try the plug from the 60 and see if it works well.

it's a mono sampler right? that's why it'll only sample one channel, look at what's playing the device and how it's getting out of that. you'll need a stereo to mono plug most likely.

Edit sample->04 choose one shot

Edit program->15 press the arrow over to one shot and press the ON button

then make sure to go back and press the play button

Ok cool I got the one shot and loop thing down. About the sampling...

I'm using the exact cable I use to sample with the 60. I'm using a stereo to mono y cable. I take it out the back of my 60 and plug it into the 950. When I sample, the 950 is just not getting the audio from the right channel. If I plug it back into the 60 and pan right the 60 is getting it.

El already mentioned it but it's all about that MIDI/DRUM setting to keep you from hearing your samples from within the 60. It's mono sampling so choose the R or L or just use a mono cord/adapter to combine the two. The outputs on the L will play assigned outs 1-4 and on the R 5-8 the MIXOUT will play it all but sounds will not cancel each other out (like MONO rather than POLY on the MPC) unless you assign a sound to an individual output. To make a sample play it's entire duration without holding down the pad just adjust the RELEASE I think the default is either 10 or 30, 99 will play the full sample. Also it only has 8 voices so if you making a beat and you start droping a sound or two at certain places in your sequence you'll have to delete some events.

pan the output fader L on your mixer...sample into 950.

pan the output fader R on your mixer...sample into 950.

see what happens.

Yo. My cable on one end is a 1/4 connection. On the other end are two RCA connections. I plug the L and R RCA into the stereo out of my DJ mixer and the 1/4 in either the 60 or the s950. Whenever I sample, I always pan L or R. I know how to sample mono. What I'm saying is, when I sample in the s950, and pan right, the screen is blank. Like the meter is not going up at all. But when I pan left, the meter starts moving like normal. It's the same cable and it works on the 60 so it has to be the s950.

On the s1000 you have to select "right" in the record sample screen. It selects "left" by default.

How do I do that? I don't see it when I'm in the Record menu.

local off, set to drum until the trrack is recorded, then switch it to midi, no internal soudns triggered.
