what exactly is it for?i always hear people discuss this as if its essential.Well i tried layering sounds and it became either off beat or just too loud.i tried it with drums and it just became too loud.is there a proper way to do this?

you have to of course go in and edit the other sound so it sounds right layered. you cant just throw sounds together and expect them to fit. you have to make them work. if the drums sound too loud after you layer it, go in and lower one of the samples volume.

if your instruments dont match when you layer them, try layering with a different instrument. everything wont sound right layered together.

Maybe layering just came naturally to me, but I've never had any problems putting instruments on top of each other.
