Sampling from vinyl into a P.C.

I have been looking around for a good while and i have found nothing on any forum. Maybe i have over looked something but what is a good program and a good way to sample from vinyl into your P.C. directly or thru a sound card or audio interface? Hope this is under the right topic. oh yeah i forgot to say that i wasnt using an MPC just turntable mixer and whatever else it takes.

Whatever program basically than can record audio. As far as the best thats very subjective. I use Acid Pro 5, Ableton Live 5, Pro Tools 6.4. I like Acid its very easy to use, plus it can can render your files as pretty much any audio file type, but so can Sound forge. I would say for you take a look at Sony Sound Forge...

Is sound Forge good for finding loops points and finding tempo. Tempo is a major thing i have used cds to sample from like ''Santana'' or ''El Debarge'' for example and when i tryed to use the beat mapper in Acid i cought hell trying to find the tempo.

i personaly don't use the beatmapper in Acid. I use the tap tempo on my Kaoss Pad to get close, then from there chop up the sample to fit the tempo, and then render out as loop.

easiest way to sample vinyl into your sequencer program is this....I use nuendo, but cubase or P.T. or logic, or just about anything with a clicktrack 'll work

-create a new project.

-make an audio track.

-set the BPM that you want to work at on the transport bar in your sequencer program.

-route the audio coming in from the turntable onto the audio track you've just created.

-now, turn on the clicktrack on your sequencer program, and beatmatch the vinyl to the clicktrack set to your working BPM.

-thats it. record that s*** in there. no screwing around with timestretch and pitchshifting and all that. The loop or sample you want will be all synced up for the BPM that you want to work at and then it's also real easy to cut and edit to drop into an MPC or for whatever you want to do with it. Hope thats what your talkin about.

Thanks alot, Im finally on the right track. Is there anything else i can use to in teh tempo manually other than teh Kaos Pad?

I loop up the sample in Cool Edit...load it up in Acid and set the BPM to the beat i'm working on.
