Difference between MPC 2000 and 2000xl ???

First of all, hi! I'm nu to this board and havent had my hands on an MPC or any other hardware, only basic PC programs.

sorry if this has been posted before (I'm sure it has), but I've been searchin around for this for a long while and couldnt find any decent info, only some tech data I couldnt decipher..:
WHATS THE DIFFERENCE? like, the relevant differences.

mind that I'm a tech idiot. although I can look most phrases up in the dictionary, the latter aint always too helpful..

I'm askin cos I could get a used 2000 with 18mb for 450US$, while most auctions on used 2000XLs end around 800US$ on german ebay.
the thing is, I wanna make hiphop, but not the dr.dre kinda crap (for which I'm sure the 2000 would suffice), but advanced hiphop/triphop like what Prefuse 73, Alias and Dj Shadow do (they all use the XL).. I know that means hard work and all, but now I just wanna know about the possibilities of the 2000, cos if I spend that much money on something I wanna keep it for a long time..

look, if I wanna put a certain sound thats in my head into an audible form, the machine must allow me to do so. thats why I'm askin what the 2000xl can do for me that the 2000 doesnt.
listen to the producers I mentioned (especially prefuse) and you'll instantly notice that they use effects you wont find on any mediocre sampler.

I've heard a Prefuse song before and he used the MPC only . Either one the 2000 or the 2000XL can acheive the same results. The only difference is that the XL has a couple upgrades that get yu from point A to point B a little quicker and withhout as many stops. The sounds you are looking for are determined by what the programer samples and how they tweak them. If you don't have the patience or creativity to chop and warp existing sounds then the PC world might best suit your intentions. Provided you know HOW TO SAMPLE you can again acheive this vision on just about any decent sampler so long as you know how to chop,filter, decay, attack and fine tune or should I say adjust the speed and pitch settings.

2k and 2kxl don't MAKE/CREATE sounds, you input sounds into it and tweak them once they are inside. If you can find a source for that sound in your head *insert jokes here* then sample it into the 2k/2kxl and go from there. Whether or not the 2k/2kxl can tweak it out the way you want is dependant on the limitations of the the MPC and your skills..

DJ Shadow and Prefuse73 use the MPC3000, not the 2000xl. If it's any constellation to you RJD2 uses the 2000xl...

Prefuse uses a 2kXL.

I mean, yes, I'm a lazy cat, but no, PCs are definitely not for me, as most of all I need something I can bang my beats live on.

btw, I'm pretty sure shadow uses or used an XL, but then again, he must've made endtroducing on the 2K since the XL wasnt out then..

According to an interview in TapeOp #11, he made Endtroducing... on an MPC 60 (pre-MPC@K). He didn't upgrade to the 3000 until the U.N.K.L.E. album.
