i hadnt heard of that new rane, but like i said, i been outta the loop for a bit. i did see that doom's dj, kool akiem, modded his 56 to put the SL1 inside his mixer...i wonder if he's been workin with serato and rane on that.

i agree with you on that metallic vestax sound...unnatural, but there aint much natural about the sound of scratching.

have you modded your 56 at all? my boy told me you can take out the tension spring in the fader and its even smoother.

you're right about the power cable. one thing you can do is just pick up a piece at radio shack that you can plug the cable into, then into the mixer...that you can always leave the power cable plugged in and you don't have to keep messing with the little lever on it, cause those things always break off.
btw, the 56 does have a power switch.

I think i will either go with the Rane TTM-56, or a Vestax. I'm going to a DJ shop thing tomorrow, so I will try it out there. Thanks alot for the replies man.

after you try them out first hand, you'll undoubtedly be able to find it online for cheaper...just read the return policy/warranty fine print and make sure theyre an authorized dealer (sometimes they'll say they are, but 'taint true...contact the manufacturer to make sure).

i got my 56 for $599 at agiprodj...ask for justin.
djdeals also has comparable prices.

sometimes you'll get lucky at the store, and they'll match a price for you. i actually got a deal at GC earlier this week. they didn't have the model i wanted and dude gave me the next model up for the same price. saved me $60 on a better model.

turntablelab is indeed the truth. they schooled me alot when i first got started. bought a lot of dj vids from them in the beginning. they've sinced become a little less than appealing on their prices, and sometimes their reviews are a little too subjective...but thats what their clips are for.

lately i've been hittin up fat beats for better deals, and sometimes sandbox.

**another caveat with buying vinyl that you plan on scratchin/jugglin with online is that you won't know if its warped before you get it in your hands. i don't care if you got 44-7s and a straight tone arm, if that wax aint flat, it just aint right.**

It doesn't need it imo. As long as you maintain that shit, keeping it lubed, it should be butta. But if you like the Focus Fader feel, go ahead and take it out.

yeah i dont really have a problem with it. my boy just mentioned it cause he's used to it, i guess.

this one kid i know lubes his 56 with vaseline, and it seems to work. i've used gun oil in the past on my vestax faders. everyone else swears by caig...i'll cross that path when i get there.

i played on the focus on a stanton a while back and thought it felt too 'light', could just been because it was a stanton though. i've also messed around on a vestax with the "A mod" and didnt really see a need for it.

all that stuff aint really necessary once you get used to your particular setup. id rather not have to rely on the fastest cut-in anyways. i remember makin some funky sht when i was startin off on an apex mixer. that fader was a serious workout.
