now that OS2 is out i installed the hard drive...tried to format and received "format is invalid"

i tried booting while holding down the erase button...tried again and still no go.

any suggestions? TIA

i have a toshiba mk8026GAX - 80gb 5400rpm

did it read 2 gigs of this drive before the update?

also did you format it on your pc?

i didnt bother before the update. i have a gig CF card and the extra gig didnt seem appealing enough to take the mpc apart.

the hard drive has not been formatted thru my computer. when i do the usb connection thru my mpc, the drive is recognized thru disk management as 80 gigs but it doesnt mount the drive in my computer. only option is to initialize it but that fails.

thanks for the fast response.

hmm, so, it's a brand new hard drive? could be that this is an incompatible drive. don't see why it shouldn't work tho.

you don't have to select the start or end. the sliders are dedicated while in trim mode. you just have to move the slider while holding the after key. q-link 1 controls the start and q-link 2 controls the end points.

if i'm not mistaken i think this is the same drive as sparq's only 80 gigs. it has the 16MB buffer as well. well, my laptop has a 40gig drive i'll swap with if there arent anymore suggestions. i'm pulling my laptop data off right now.

since i installed the new OS, it AUto-Loads mad pgms and samples when i boot it. i changed the name of folders and put samples into new folders but it still autoloads IE; DJ-Hip_Set, Nuskool_Set etc..

thanks for any help guys.
go to load, highlight "Load From" then press the window button. scroll to off and now you're set.

that's in the manual.

is this the drive you have?

Toshiba MK8032GAX. if so, then it should work. this is the 80gb. mine is the Toshiba MK1032GAX (100gb)

here is a stupid question when you formatted the hard drive, did you select the hard disk when you formatted or was it still showing the memory card in the "device" field?

strange then. could be a faulty drive i guess, but that's unlikely if it's new.

Sparq, or anyone else, what format does it have to be in? is it ONLY FAT16? or can it be FAT16 and 32?

yes you should, that's the problem.

you could stick it in your laptop and format it there i guess. not sure if that would work though.
