so let's call him [X]

[X] is an established producer from the 80's who made a ton of classics hes old now and doesn't care about looking for samples anymore...just making beats so he hires people to look for samples for him he pays them every week and they give him hours of 1 shot samples loops etc. how do u feel about that?

i guess thats like BAM sending marly to the record store to buy his records right , i dont see anything wrong with it , dudes only supplyin samples not making the music, this[X} is doin the work of creating the beat and the song he's just using someone elses samples,
what 's the difference in that from sampling your using some one elses music to make it your own right? i think it's cool. plus he chooses what he wants to use right?

not when finding the samples is part of the art...its wack imo.

i will always look for my own samples but as long as the end product is hot, i don't care what people use or where they got it.

I'm beginning to hate how much access poeple have to artists. Who cares how he comes up on samples? Hopefully, he's paying the guys fairly. After that, I could care less. I would just consider X and his sample finders a team. Some hunt down the source sounds and the other puts them together.

To me, it's not much different than the Neptunes dividing creative duties, Gamble & Huff, Sly & Robbie, LaFace, Soulquarians... except in this case, there's more of a creative leader... an arranger if you will.

Remember, we all draw our lines in different places. The person criticizing someone for not finding the samples he arranges can be criticized by another musucian for sampling, not playing the music himself. That same sample-based producer could be criticized by a DJ for using a sampler as a crutch, not juggling the breaks manually. Yes, hip hop was built on sampling, but only because we've internalized, justified and accepted the practice.

..Well to me its like If you got the loot to pay somebody, being established like that means he can be concetrating on other production tasks...Resourcefulness if I may use such a word...sort of like a paralegal who does all the leg work for lawyers..Nothing wrong with that. Basically dude can maximize his production time and be more productive. Aint that what its all about? Producing....no matter how its done the end users head nodding is what lines the pocket...I feel the art of digging thing, but in a Money driven industry, time and Timing is EVERYTHING.....
Some doit for the love, some do it for the $$$$.....The difference is in the music and you can hear it....

Theres alot of producers who get good ish handed to em all the time because they have big names, i think its the same as some record dealer diggin up records for a producer and he pays for it and now the producer might have a new label, year, and artist to dig for in the future and sample. imo

yo i'm feelin you on this just like that movie deepcrates theres dudes in there that pay the record dealer to bring himor find him good shizz what the difference he didnt dig for it he just paid for it, but he goes and produces a track with it,, idont see the difference in it.

i dont do it. but if i had the money to pay some one to buy the records i wanted like BAM does shizz i'mma do it.

Kool Herc, Flash, Bambataa ...... they all had people hunting records for them.

hours of one shot samples? thats the weak part. not having somebody hand you the record and saying "try this" but chopping it into one shots and loops?

If you have a problem with Marley Marl paying people to find samples for him then you should never buy a keyboard, sound module or drum machine because you would be doing the same thing -paying someone to provide sound for you. And lets us not forget we are all doing what he was the first to do- sampling from records so lets not get it twisted.

i havent got any of those things really im using the 60 and thats it..I find sounds on vinyl and put them in the 60. what do they need the producer for..i guess it comes down to "producer' or 'beatmaker'...

i was real mad the first time i read it...
i mean i think it's lame that u let someone elses ear decide what's good to sample maybe he aint good at choppin... some shit people sample im like wow i never even heard that in this record... and a lotta times i hear somethin else in the same record a lot better than the shit sampled so i dunno
