sampling from an mp3 player?

what type of wire would i need to hook my mp3 player to my mpc? I want to sample while i'm at work and this is the only thing i have. an suggestion? Do they make an 1/8 inch jack that splits into a left and right 1/4 inch jacks for the mpc? Like a Y shaped cable?

Yup, monster cable makes a nice one I dont know the exact name for it, I have one and use it for running music from my ipod to a stereo or sampling into my mpc

i just run my pc soundcard to the mixer, and sample backwards

i really just want it for work. when i'm away making beats in case i hear something on my player

Sampling from you MP3 player will change the sample.

MP3 -> Analog Signal -> MPC

Analog signals are places for noise to be added. Even if the cables you use don't add noise to the sample, the volume of the output of your computer and the input of you MPC will never be matched and you'll end up losing information.

A quicker way to get mp3 samples onto the MPC without losing information is:

MP3 -> file converter -> WAV

The information never becomes analog and cannot have noise added to it. Using a mp3 to wav file converter (google.com) is a quicker and less noisy solution.

However... Maybe the preamps of your MP3 player add a type of noise that you like... (perhaps EQ?)

Is it streaming mp3s you're trying to record?

iRecordMusic - record net audio as mp3, aac, ogg, flac

you can also do it (and a lot more) with audacity: editor audio freeware, for mac, pc and linux.
