I use a MPC3000 with an external 100mb zip and a 1GB external SCSI hard drive. I believe that it can, but I've heard a number of things about it that don't make me comfortable about it for the long run. Basically, it's not supposed to be very reliable.

As for a SCSI Hard drive, I think you may wanna look on EBay or any old/refurbished or used computer dealer's site. I use Macs so, I suggest you check www.lowendmac.com for a list of dealers. Look for 50 pin SCSI drives. You could get one for about $25.00 to $65.00. Make sure hat you have the proper cables.

Good luck.

I worked with someone a little while back who brought over a SCSI Jaz drive and hooked it up to my MPC2000XL. The drive ended up crashing one day he was over and he lost a ton of data (he started beating on my MPC thinking it was the machine's fault. He was never invited back). It was definitely the Jaz drive. I'd be weary of them.

I use SCSI hard drives and they've been very reliable so far. I've had one zip give me a problem, but never a hard drive. Plus they're super fast for loading and saving. I have a few extra 1 GB and 2 GB drives lying around already formatted and ready to use. $25 each plus shipping. Let me know because I was planning on posting them on eBay soon.

hi @all

i`m thinking about to buy the 2000xl, which is unarmed. It has only the standard 2mb internal ram, no zip...
If i buy a scsi drive too, could the mpc load the waves in the same time from the scsi then from the internal ram, or is the sample loading from the internal ram faster ?

The real one questions is, Is the 2mb internal ram enough for me if i buy an scsi drive ?

i hope you undestand me..

hi!
samples are loaded from external memory (drive) into internal memory (RAM) and after loading you can use them.. so you can't use external drive as big pack of samples wich you can use at anytime you want (like in roland sp machines). you have to load them first.
all best

hard to tell what are the prices in Germany
in poland i bought 2X32 simm RAM for about 5Euro (I don't know why they sell them as a pair???)
look at eBAY.. f.e.
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... egory=4611
You should find some good SIMM for You.
Remember.. access time should be better than 70ms and memory 'boards" should have 72pins
