OS 2x - JOYS AND PAINS thread PT1

love the new os..

ive got one observation but i dont know if it was the same in 1.07, so bear with me.

Last night I wanted to trim a sample while the beat was playing... now I remember not being able to do that, but the os is new so thought i'd try: first hit play in main screen then mode-trim, nothing happens. Not too surprised. Then I hit stop, go to trim mode, and hit play, nothing happens.

But then I hit 'window' in trim mode to go to the sample name/tuning screen... and from that screen I hit play and the sequence starts playing! Now I can trim my sample while listening to the beat. (Of course, the beat has some timing glitches at this point.)

Anybody else doing this?

(sorry if this is in the manual but I dont think so :p )

if there is NTFS already on the disk you would have to remove that partition and reformat the drive before attempting to format it in the mpc.

i removed the partition and just stuck it back in the MPC. i didnt re-format anything.

cool, so you got the drive working fine in the mpc? did you reformat it in the mpc?

yea, i booted off a win98 cd and fdisk'd the drive. put it back in the mpc, formatted and its all good now.

Oh sweet... nice find... I just tried it and noticed that it works, BUT while doing thit, you can ONLY adjust the start and endpoints using the Q-Links, it doesn;t work if you try to use the data wheel.

I am very new to the MPC. Mine came with v 1.03, and when I
got it home, I upgraded to v 1.07 with no problems - so I sure
wasn't expecting a blank screen when I tried to intall v 2.01 this
afternoon. After a bit of panic, I came over here to the forum,
figuring that I couldn't be the ONLY person who might have had
a problem or two. Reading through the threads, I got gently
reminded that instead of panicking that I had turned my lovely
MPC into a doorstop, that it really isn't that hard to reload the
factory defaults. WHEW. I re-loaded v 1.07, just in case...and
then I got out a brand-new CF card - even though I had deleted
previous .bin files, you just never know...and managed, this time,
to successfully upgrade the OS to v. 2.01.

Now I can start having REALLY complicated and advanced problems
like the rest of y'all.

Cool, glad I found something original for once

Now I'm tempted to start bugging Akai to just make this feature fully functional.. but I'm gonna wait awhile so it doesn't seem like I'm whining .

It really is useful to me to be able to test out different trim points while my beat is playing...

You can also assign velocity to startpoint. Check manual page 69: V > Start field
Combine this with the 16 levels button (to have more control over velocity). This way you can record a sample with different start points.
It's not as cool as using the sliders (also it's only start point, not end) but at least this way you can record changes in a seq.

I thought, weird, but a quick look at the manual settled it

p.88: "Adjusting the contrast of LCD
You can adjust the contrast of the LCD display by turning the DATA wheel with holding [SHIFT] key. Adjusting the contrast of LCD can be done in any page."

so maybe you people with this kinda problem can try that, just to make sure the contrast isnt turned all the way down for some odd reason

Happened to me today too... made me wonder if it's almost time for a new CF card.... but maybe it's the os... my card is only about 2 months old.
