Pretty much all 2.5" Laptop hard drives have a 44-pin interface which is standard. The different things you mentioned were merely indicative of the speed of the interface, but the mpc will work with all of those you mentioned.

EIDE and IDE are the same except for EIDE being a more recent, faster standard for data transfer.

ATA is an even newer standard. Most drives today are of the ATA standard.

As i mentioned above though, these all have the same physical plug, so you can't really go wrong.

If you're still stuck just go for the drive Sparq has, it is large and it works!

I am going to get the 100GB Seagate 7200RPM one (Momentus 7200.1) ST910021A.

It's says it's height is 9.5mm. Will this still fit? I heard others saying that the kit will only accept 9mm height.......?? Is this still considered "slim-line", or low profile?

best thing to do would be to get the HDM-10 kit first, then measure the 'hole'

Seagate Momentus 20 GB (ST92011A) 5400 RPM

Installed and instantly recognised. I haven´t tried copying or saving something to it yet as I first want to work out a intelligent folder system which I can live with for a while.

One question though, it only took a few secons to format the disc. Is that normal or is it suspiciously fast?

Samsung MP0804H 80GB 2.5" 2MB Cache HDD

Installed and recognised no problems.

Do you know how to check the size of the drive that the MPC sees? I can't find that in the manual.

Note: I bought this drive at Comp USA. What I thought I was buying was a Centon 100GB 4200rpm drive. When I got home I opened the box and it was the Samsung (which is 5400). The drive was only $100 so I ended up getting a good deal.

that's what's up. that was a good deal.

I was going to use the Seagate Momentus 7200 RPM Hard Drive. But, ended up going with a 100GB Hitachi 7K100 7200 RPM Hard Drive instead. It's the fastest 2.5" (notebook) drive you can buy.

...yeah, may be a little overkill, but at least I can maximize the I/O performance to the max......

Guitar Center had my HDM-10 in in 5 days...not bad for $2 shipping!!

Got an IBM Travelstar 30Gb ATA/IDE 4200RPM
Model: IC25N030ATCS04-0

Second-hand shop, for 59€. Works fine. So fast compared to the CF!

I formated to be sure of the stuff: is it normal it's so fast (~15sec.)?

And I noticed a slight noise due to the HD... but nothing to get really disturbed about...

Just installed a Toshiba MK8032 GAX 80GB Hard Drive. Works faultlessly.

I can understand why some of you get a 100Gb hard drive, it could be very usefull for samples issues (even if you certainly won't fill it before years); but I don't really understand why you use the argument of the speed :

It's the fastest 2.5" (notebook) drive you can buy.

I mean, the fastest hard drive for a laptop isn't an issue for a MPC, since the MPC doesn't use it "real time" at all, and only uses it to save/load (you can't record a sample directly from Input to HD). So the access time to the hard drive is quite a detail, plus the difference between 4200 & 7200 is unsignificant when you load/save on MPC (and is still the fastest regarding the old floppies...)

My point is that you don't need to purchase the "best" 2.5" hard drive for your MPC, which is really expensive: so you can save money and buy wax & gear...
