get to ya public library and visit www.akai-pro.com and u can download os 2.1 and put it on ur compact flash cd, then ur mpc 1000 can hav the os 2 and timestretching and all the other features too

not only that, you need to read and understand the features also.

just read the manual and you`ll be fine, if that doesnt help read the 2.0 manual. it might seem hard at first but once you start reading and doing it you`ll be like "OHHHHH thats how" and you`ll be fine.

1. First of sample your vinyl as usual...
2. Trim your sample so that it loops perfectly.
3. Sequence your sample, and adjust the tempo on the track screen so your sequence plays your loop prefectly (make sure you have the correct bars etc)
4. once you have it playing nice, take a note on the tempo your sequence is playing on. This is your "Origainal Tempo" of what you have sampled.
5. Now go back to trim edit mode and Time Stretch your sample to what ever you want. Making sure that you change tempo in track screen to what you timestretch it too.

Simple.

main i read the manual before i even rocked the mpc.. but i only came out wit like 1/10'th of all that.. now that i been messin wit it and wit yalls info i'm bout to re read it agai see if i can catch another 20% off it...

all i gotz to say is as an emcee I thought BEAT makin was jus findin a dope sample, loopin it and addin drums.. but nah... its a whole NOTHER world yo... been researchin this ish mad heavy these last few months ain't even spit to a track in like 2 months.. now bout to appply all that and put it to effect...

p..s.. if you use the tap tempo on the mpc how many bars should the sample be? from my understandin you need 4 bars and so you play ya beat and tap it at each bar right?

beatmaking is harder/more expensive/takes more time/takes more practive/takes more technical ability/takes more incorporation of outside disciplines than emceeing

and emceeing takes a SH!TLOAD of all of the above, i'm by no means knocking it because i do both.

I think flaming crowd went away with the os release. I hope it'll last. For me I've learned you're always someone's noob. I used to work in a lil production/studio cie. And I used to think "those rappers don't know ish bout music" (like what's a measure, time signature, whatsoever). Then I had to record some cellos for one of my track, so I hooked up with a pro cello player, and it happend that in my track there were few slightly out of tune bass notes. A few people had listened to the track , and noone had noticed (everyone well trained musician). It was a humbling experience, since then I don't diss beginner musicians.
lil off topic, the point was keep on learning.
For the tap tempo, thing I don't use it, but if you search through the manual you might get infos.
