best unknown producers?

sixtoo's drums are amazing. check out villain accelerate, it's one of the most incredible abstract hip hop instrumental albums i've ever heard. it's sixtoo and stigg of the dump.

this album is not one that kids who don't like abstract hip hop can get away with not liking. everyone loves villain accelerate - if you've heard it and don't like it, you're probably deaf...no joke i've never met one person who dislikes it, esp among those who make music. amazing album.

Jake One is one of my favorite producers too, but I don't think he's unknown. I realize the original post/question is pretty vague as to what is "unknown," but Jake has done beats for E40, 50 Cent and G-Unit, The Game, Bishop Lamont, Planet Asia, De La Soul, the Hiero fam, etc. Those are the top in both mainstream and underground.

man what about joe beats?? just listen to all the non-prophets tracks..some sage franis tracks...prolyphic( a very underated mc) and others...madlib..ant from atmosphere...meaty ogre from galapogos 4.....rjd2....man show some of the actual great artists some support!

he chooses good samples, but his drums are uninspired and all he does is loops the sample over and over and over

no demonstration of any ability past the early 90s if you ask me.

Anybody up on Doomtree? Folks outta minneapolis... emily bloodmobile, lazerbeak, etc... They did P.O.S.'s Ipecac Neat album, which is currently in complete control of my CD player.

Do music a favor and check out "Kicking knowledge in the face" on his myspace page. I imagine it's not for everybody, but lord... electronic marching-band cadences with old school step squad delivery... cheaa.

Nym- Yeah, I'd never heard of him until I got some sampler CD with the new Atmosphere album. The track was POS Is Ruining My Life, and for all intents and purposes, he did ruin my life. Now everyone'll think I'm copying his style just because he's already at where I've been going with my sound since I started doing this whole thing. Remember when rap and rock used to be a laughable combination? **** nu-metal, i just like distorted guitar and Fugazi samples over my red-lined drums, is all.

I'm going to see him Feb. 12th in Boston for the first time and just based on what I've heard about his background, I expect it to be an amazing show. He's a tasteful writer, knows how to engage a crowd and the material is begging to be played Live, Live, Live by his crew of djs and producers.

But seriously though, Ipecac Neat, from a production standpoint alone, is just flippin' ridickalus.

Also, are we just talking about "hip hop" or "rap" oriented producers? If not, imma call attention to Mirwais. French guy, did one of Madonna's albums... his own cd "Production" tore me up for a little while.

sixtoo uses a mpc1000 aswell.saw him using it live.

i guess he just reminds me of buck 65 too much. witouht even listening to his shit. maybe im just hating. ill get that an album and see whats good with him
