MPC2500 - "Must do's or Must Have's"

sup yal. i just got my mpc2500 and started to mess wid it a little when i realized more memory is a must. since this is my first ever mpc i wanted to know if i could get a list of the "must do's or must have's" for this thing?

Some MIDI rack mount sound modules/sampler and/or a MIDI synth/keyboard.

Go ahead and max it out with the memory, hard drive, and CD drive. Then you are set.

I would give VST and Alto Music a call for those parts.

You have the optyion of checking the MPC 1000 forum for the alternatives to Akai's memory. But I must add that I only believe in using products made by/for the 2500..

just peeped the mpc1000 forum and looks like it uses the same RAM as the 2500. im about to cop a 80g HD today and am wondering if the cd rom is worth it?

the 1k and the 2.5k uses the same memory and hard drive. take a look again. right now, the cd-m25 does not record. it only reads. so to ask is it worth it, i still think so because it will have the ability to record in a future os update.

Until then though, I wouldn't buy the CD-M25. But thats my opinion. I'll buy it when it can save and record data.

If I had to get one sound module, it would most likely be a Roland XV-5080 or Fantom XR. They both have quality sounds and are more expandable then other sound modules in their class.

Go woth the XR, the Fantom XR editor makes it worth the money.

The Fantom's editor is ok...but so is the XV-5080s editior

The Fantom XR has a sampler but you need a computer to load sample CD Roms. The XV is more suited for loading commercial CD Roms with its SCSI Port.

It does sample without a computer. But if you want to load commercial CD Roms, you need a computer.

oh i see! sorry misunderstanding. i don't mean to offend anyone, but i really can't understand the point in these 'playback only' sound modules. sure you can manipulate the sound, but you're still restricted to the samples that are loaded on it, right? i know a lot of them have expandable sounds via wave ROMs etc, but they just seem so restrictive, or maybe i've totally misunderstood them all this time!

The Fantom XR is a sampler. The XV-5080 is a sample player.
