Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

hello... i have an mpc 2000 classic and was wondering what is a good external cd drive to use for loading samples from a cd to the akai... i got an external zip drive hooked up with a scsi - would it be possible to connect the cd drive to the zip to the akai? i have been transfering samples from a cd on a pc to a floppy, and then into the akai and saving them on the zip... its a long process and i am willing to spend the $ to get an external cd drive.... any suggestions and/or help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.

peace,

 What could you do with the words, *cd AND drive AND scsi AND 2000*? ...I wonder...

I think it may be possible to daisy chain the devices like you said. But I'm not really certain. Maybe someone else is.

If all else fails and you've got the money...

You can indeed daisychain a cdrom drive to the external zipdrive. You should ask yourself the question whether it is useful to have a cdrom drive connected to an mpc 2000 classic since the format of cd's an mpc2000 can read is different from the format a mac/pc/mpc2000XL can read. Making your own mpc2000 compatible cd's is a quite elaborate thing to do.

aight i searched a little about the format of the cd's.... is the problem the 2k has reading the samples from the folders? i save samples from cd's i have onto a floppy from a pc - then i load them into the 2k's floppy drive - it reads the wav files and when i save them on the zip they save as snd files(i think) and everything is fine. if i removed all the samples on these cd's from their folders and just had a cd of wav files, would the 2k read them off the cd drive? thanks for the responses....

No, you really need to make the cd's in an aki specific format, check the useful links thread it contains a link to a page that explains how to make these akai specific cdroms. That way you can judge for yourself whether it is worth the hassle.
