SP Turbo for $300?

should I get it?

it's from a local friend of mine, includes the disk drive and disks...here's the email

hey man, did you ever grab an sp12? i have decided to sell mine for $300 if
you or someone you know would be interested. i'm asking for half of what
the turbo's usually go for on ebay because it's missing a fader on track
eight(easy to work around), and it's just old. it has it's glitches
sometimes but it's never really been an big issue. every once in awhile it
will have a hiccup while sampling and make a weird static noise. it may
glitch the sample out when it does that, so you just have to sample the
sound again. and, a couple of times it's os didn't load correctly on
startup. i just turned it off and back on, and it was fine. the little
blue buttons are less responsive than they could be, but you can order a
whole replacement pack for very cheap. other than that shit, it's all good.
i can send you pics if you want. i just want to make clear to whoever buy's
it that it has these issues. other than that, i really don't want to get
rid of it but i need the money. i will include the floppy drive and several
floppies also.

is there anywhere that sells the buttons? the slider caps?

Getting parts would not be an issue if you got the time and the money you should go for it but offer less than 3 bills.

I was thinking 150 or less but that's probably fair I suppose. It sounds like it's on the brink of death, it might end up being a burden if you pay too much.

Way overpriced weather they are going for that or not. I wouldnt **** with anything but the 1200 or possibly the turbo. I predict it will get mad sleep based on its extreme limitations and be a waste of money. But to each their own.

If u can spare the money, go for it. But hold on! diskdrive?? isint it a 1541 commodore to thoose, or am i wrong?

Well, if u have it. u can make it act as ure M A I N midiclock for any DAW u use, or just reason, live etc. u will have the sweetest groove with that box.

150, 250, who cares.. money is not an object when it come to that ridicoulus money for serious piece of musicgear. Dont piss ure friend of, offering him like no-moeny. 250 I S reasonible for that machine.

the 1200 go for almost 5times that, and it have just 10sec more memory, and a 3.5 ddrive attached. nothing more

Should have read better ... I wouldnt say 300 is half the ebay price they usually run around 300-400 from what i have seen. I bet you could find a better deal for a better unit on ebay with a little patience. If it already has its problems your just asking to be took by a machine that is going downhill. Just my opinion.

There is nothing quite like an SP12 with problems.
Bad buttons, stiff jumpy faders, scratch pots and faders, bad joints on outputs, overheating intermittent power supply, dim display, bubbling face, chipped case, weak filter caps,...........just a few typical problems.
His already had problems so that's even worse.
If you are a capable indivdual then get it and be prepared to put some time on it.
One other choice would be to give him $150 and put it in a closet, find yourself a good non-turbo and then combine the two.
Then again I see SP-1200 sell for $300-500 all the time, just depends on how and where you shop.
