Bass Lines and Other Questions??

Whats up guys? New to the board. Recently switched from software to the mpc1000 and have a few questions. First, bass sounds. I have a lot of 1 shot bass sounds that sound real good. However, when you use the 16 note feature, the keys are way off, and it seems that adjusting the note settings does not alter this? Im trying to get a nice warm bass sound like Nicolay, Kev Brown, Pete Rock type stuff. Anybody have any tips on getting that type of bass, if you are familiar with those artists? Second, when sampling from vinyl, i used to use adobe audition and you can clean the hell outta the sample in there... I cannot for the life of me achieve this strictly with the mpc1000, so any suggestions there would be great as well. Although the mpc1000 is very computer friendly, I am trying to do as much with the mpc as possible without reverting back to the pc. I dont wanna have to do drums in the moc and route everything to software to do bass lines etc..... any help would be very appreicated. i have read the manual from cover to cover and am using the new 2.10 OS.

The 16 levels feature just pitches up the sound over your pads. Changing the note (midi) of your pgm won't do anything. If you change the tune of the original sample, it'll afect the whole stuff (keep in mind that the 16 level feature is not a pgm). What you need to do (depending on what you're trying to achieve) is to get some multisamples.
For bass sound, try using lowpass filters (lowend theory) and/or get better bass samples.
You cannot do advanced wave editing with the mpc (as you would with audition, wavelab or any sound editor), you can do a lot of things though try to filter out undesired frequencies, plsy with enveloppes. If you have a sample that is really nasty edit it before you get it into the mpc, or clean the track in your DAW when the song is finished. Try to clean your stylus and your records, and record the samples at the best volume.

pete rock uses low end theroy which you can get by taking a sample and filterng out the hi's with a low pass filter and adding some compression and distorion to it. Kev brown just pitches his bass notes up and down, I"m sure he has other techniques, but that is a common one for him. Nicolay uses a live bass in his tracks you can deff her it, also pete rock used live bass on soul survior 2 on some of the tracks.

How about using an 808 bass tone for basslines?
