i sold my old turntables and bought a numark pt-01 and some other bells and whistles. the pt's nice because it's small, doesn't take a lot of space, it's extremely portable (thus the name, portable turntable - 01) anyway... i don't even use a mixer with that ****. I go directly from the 1/4" headphone jack into the mpc's record in. works nice for me.

I'd suggest getting one of these and then grabbing some good hardware recorder, an akai dps-16 or roland v1880. i'm currently working on a g4 powerbook with an mbox, but... i can't stand staring at the screen. i'm sort of a more hands on worker.

so... you should get a turntable first.

megaton:

you need a preamp to convert the signal coming from turntable going into the mpc. you can find these pretty cheap.

i also recomend getting a high quality needle if your going to be ripping alot of samples. shure whitelabel, a little expensive but will give you quality samples.

whats a good preamp under $100?

By whytek Sat Jan 28, 2006 7:57 pm
megaton:

check out www.zzounds.com theres some under $100.

you'll want one with 2 input riaa converters (L+R), 2 line out ( L+R) and a ground for your turntable. that way your samples will be in stereo.

you might want to check out one with a usb, so you can connect it to your computer as well.
