There are changes in the way 2.1 defaults a program as opposed to 1.07. The default volume in 2.1 is 100, while in 1.07 it is 70. You might have to change the sample volume in all of your old programs.

I'm confused here. If his beats were louder in 1.07 (default volume 70) and now they are lower in 2.10 (default volume 100), then something is wrong here. That's backwards. By this logic, his beats should now be louder in 2.10.

The reason I am addressing this is because I noticed when I had 2.10 on my system, one of my programs was super quiet. I could barely hear the beat. So you're telling me that I need to go in and change it from 100 to what, 127?

While new programs default volume to 100, I don't think that will affect your existing programs. I believe the master volume (Other->Volume or whatever... can't think right now) is what got messed with during the update. Perhaps you had it set to 0 before and it got reset to -6 or -12 or whatever.

Or maybe I'm wrong. Just an idea.

The difference is that in 1.07 a pad volume setting of 70 equals 0 dB (anything above 70 will make the sound louder than it actually is). In 2.1, a volume of 100 equals 0 dB. So, if you had your pad set to 70, in 1.07 it was full volume, while in 2.1 it's only 70%. At least that's what seems logical to me. Aight? 8)

thynctank,
I had thought of that. That was one of the first things I checked. DJ-T can vouch for me there. He checked it too and it freaked him out that my settings in OTHER > VOLUME were exactly the same in 1.07 and 2.10. Thanks for the suggestion though.

H-Mann,
Thanks for your understanding of the situation. That's one way to look at it, but in my mind it still doesn't explain what happened in my situation. Out of all my programs, only one had a lower overall volume in 2.10. I compared the pad volumes of the program in each os. Nothing had changed. They were exactly the same. There is one thing you said that I want to address though:
So, if you had your pad set to 70, in 1.07 it was full volume, while in 2.1 it's only 70%.

If we are talking about the pad volume for each pad under PROGRAM, then all I can say is that 70 is not full volume on my mpc. In 1.07 and in 2.10, my pad volumes go to 100. So 70 in 1.07 is not full volume on my mpc. Please forgive me if I am just not understanding your meaning.

Anyway, it's really not a big deal to me anymore. The main thing is that everything is all good over here now. I'm ready to move on. But thanks though. :)

no, this OS doesnt suck, well, doesnt suck anymore than the previous did in that respect..

what I mean is (being a programmer myself and not that naive anymore) I never expected akai to post a bug free OS with such major revisions.. they couldnt provide a bug-free OS up to 1.07, and it had to be a simpler matter..
And being a long time akai consumer, I never expect they will ever provide a bug free OS, no matter what akai sampler were talkin about - they all have bugs and sometimes do things they arent supposed to do

But the fact is we and almost every sampling artist in the world is using akai stuff, so unless we're all masochists, or worse, stupid, there must be some good things about their gear that evens the scale and makes us keep on living with the little glitches

anybody tried the delay in sync mode yet ?
cause it seems like it doesn't sync at all !
the way it work in pan mode is also very strange : if you set the feedback to 0, the sound is repeated 3 times at the same level (left => centre=> right if you set widht to 100)
it mean that ,with the same settings, if you switch from MONO to PAN you will have the number of repetitions multiplied by 3 .

It works for me. I was able to adjust the delay time by changing the tempo.

As far as the mono vs pan it is correct. The minimum Tap count varies under the mode and that occurs at feedback level of zero. Under mono that would appear as a single tap. Under Pan that appears as three taps, L M and R. Any fewer and it would not be a PAN type, but MONO.

This also allows you to set an initial pan for the PAN type. You can get three taps that move from one side to the middle and back again. The only thing I have not managed to get the delay to do is move from far one side and move entirely across the stereo field.

Ok...time to play devil's advocate

Sparq,

Since you had this new OS for several months now..what gives? Didn't you come across/reporrt some of these issue during use? If so, why were they not fixed prior to releasing this OS? It appears Akai will never get it right until they let people outside of Akai beta test the operating systems. I knew the OS would have issues but was still hoping for a solid release. They can hold onto the MPC 2500s OS for ahwile before releasing some BS...

sup yall?

i say, this os is lil too heavy for mpc... im pissed cause you know, if you but LOT of instruments to play at the same time, it kinda overloads and some sounds shut down, you know? so, now the limit is lower, and some older beats overload and cut the sounds, thats WACK.

and in trim mode, it doesnt move as smoothly as it used to move, and i can feel it being lil too heavy. q-slider isnt so great as i thought for trimming.

like many of you say, the older beats are messed up, drums loud, samples low... you know.

stop and play buttons dont work as good as with older os... you know, you could press both quickly, play, stop, play, stop, to get it going, but now it bugs.

lot of good features, havent really used any of them thought. reverse is only one you REALLY need. oh and input trhu is mad cool.

tip for all you having problem with 100 volume, change it to 70 and autoload.

any of you feelin me

Why don't you just go back to 1.07 and stop complaining?

i just love this OS, so far the only bug i found was the note repeat when you set the sample envellope decay to 100.

Can 't compare to OS1.07 i just received my MPC last week while OS2 was realeased so i just loaded it up straight away...

man... go buy roland or some other sh!t. I have no problems with the OS and the same is for alot of other people. MPCs werent made for people like you. You need a machine that only has 1 button. Even then you would probably still b!tch and whine that the button doesnt click right. I thought you was leaving this forum after the 2.0 OS and you're still back here doing what you do best, which is b!tching and whining. Give up on akai already, let go of there nvts, instead of keeping them in your mouth and complaining about it.

This guy must work for yamaha or roland. No one tries to throw more dirt on akai than this b!tch
