mpc 1000 midi program change explorations.....

My question is this, How in the hairy hell do you change through your midi programs/sounds (when midi'ing external synths/modules) in the 1000? I noticed the step edit/insert midi program change,but when you are in that screen and you trigger a key as you change program #'s,all these random notes are put in...(I LOVE the 1000, and am rolling with o.s. 2.10,but MAN it was SO easy in the 2000 xl,with all thoses good ol' program #'s(1-128) in the main window..(where they belong..) I am completely perplexed with this,and it's one of my main issues with the 1000 as I have my rack full of synths/samplers collecting dust because of this...Please,If anyone has a solution,your rasta breda is in dire need....Thanks kindly, and blessings...Ras David

what keyboard or boards are you trying to trigger with the 1k?

If I'm guessing your trying to send midi control messages,and before you do that you need to know what your control numbers are in the keyboards and samplers , get the manuals,and look up Bank map: example

Bank Bank Map:Korg Bank Map: GM (2)

A OO.OO Receive/Transmitt 63.00 R/T

B 00.01

C 00.02

and so-----------

MSB-00/LSB-02 is bank C with Program 26 /synth sound etc.
This is what you will insert into the 1k
by hitting mode:Step Edit-insert turn data wheel to control change do it twice,because you want to send two control changes ,hit insert for a program which will give you the instrument your trying to play.

that's good mr.chisel, I forgot that, I'm use to doing it the old fashion way with 2000XL. Yeah chisel is right you can change controls to (MSB) and (LSB) it's quicker, but read the manual on what you control numbers are for the keyboards.

There is an overlooked feature in OS 2.1 that IMHO is the best new feature they added. In the Pgm field, turn the dial clockwise until it reads "No. 1". Now you can change to the number field and turn the dial to change programs! It gets even better... Press the Window button in the number field and you can transmit Bank changes via MSB/LSB. All of this happens in REALTIME! I control all of my outboard gear this way. I'm so spoiled now that I don't have to reach over to my other boxes to dial up a patch. Plus, it sends these messages when you play back your sequence so no more having to add CC events in the Edit Window. Pure heaven! The only thing I wish they'd add is the ability to default the Bank Send to YES. It defaults to NO, so I had to create a template where the first 16 tracks have this value set to YES so I can send bank change messages.

so that's what that's for lol. chisel now that work flow is really simple. This o.s has so much to offer to mpc user's it's incrediable !

Talk about workflow.. I created a template that allows me to record a sequence using all my gear without ever having to stop playback. Now that's great workflow! Each of the first 16 tracks are dedicated to a specific device. The bank change MSB/LSB values are preset. The tracks are named after their corresponding device output. Tracks 17+ are for the internal drum samples. Sometimes I like to start from a clean slate and not be so structured. But if I just want to jam and see what I come up with, this is the best way. By having all the tracks preset, I can use the MPC dial to call up a patch on my outboard gear (or VSTi if it supports it) and not have to worry about going back and finding what patch I used when the sequence is finished. This was always a major headache for me before. Keep in mind, 90% of my music is MIDI so this may not work for you. I usually audition all the samples and assign them to a single program before I start recording. Even if I pull the samples from multiple programs. I always consolidate to a single Program and remove all other Programs and samples. Hope this helps!

wow...just played with this... this is dope... i used to either name the tracks on the mpc as patch numbers from the motif or just save the "user multi" on the motif

hwo come i can change the "voice" number and "LSB" number via the MPC but NOT the "MSB" number? is this normal? i have the ES rack.

if you have the modules midi voice list it should specify the particular MSB & LSB #'s needed to change the kits and banks.

Sure. As long as they support bank/program changes (i.e. Luxonix Ravity).
