step edit question (i am not a retard)

hi all,
I like this board it's full of freindly & helpfull people.

My question is basically; what is the best way to approach using the step edit function for drum programming ...
...I have been using my MPC for a while now so I'm not exactly a beginner but I've always kept away from this function.

But now i'm feeling like it would be nice to be able to shift a few of my hi-hats around and fine tune the positioning of my snares etc...

usually i'll record a drum performance over around 8-16 bars (depending on the samples im using for the actual tune) ... i usually quantise my first kick and my snares but play out the hi-hats with no quantising ...

....what i want is to be able to do this as normal and then go to step edit and move the hats around a bit to get em more precise.

any help is appreciated...

(p.s i ain't got no instruction booklet ... never owned one)

grab adobe acrobat, and download the mpc manual- its all in there mate and will explain it far better than i was about to...

i only get this internet access at work ... no downloading allowed....

i cant remember the exact buttons- but i think if you hold down goto, and use the forward or backward buttons to jump to each event....

the buttons such as copy, delete and paste are self explanatory. you can use open window to allow you to change the resolution and stuff-

so if you want to move a snare back a tic i would find the hit, hit copy and then delete- forward the seq on one tic and then paste it there-

ey, 42blues...best place to start...its not as hard as you might think...you could listen to your beat, find the/a hi-hat or something you want to move say at now:003:01:48 you go into your step edit, you scroll up to now:03:01:48, you will hear the hi-hat click when you know you found your sound your wanting to move and the screen will show the pad (53/A12)...now, scroll up a couple ticks to like now:03:01:50 or something and and press the pad with the hi-hat on it...you can controll the velocity, tune in the step edit screen...thats the very basics but should be good enough to get you started and comfortable using step edit...go from there...pz speek
