The operation was a success!!!!

Today, I got off my lazy a** and performed some minor surgery on my MPC3000.

I added 32 megs of RAM.

I fixed the ZIP drive(it was installed backward(the pins I mean).

I installed those tasty sidearms and armrest from Forat.

I unscrewed a little too many screws, but I figured it out.

I used the Roger Linn site and it was a breeze.

I'd post some pics of the new sidearms, but I still can't figure out how to post a pic on this forum!... I know, I know, but hey, I figured out how to get in the MPC in one sitting with minimal instructions, that has to count for something!

One question I do have though...

I recently purchased a SCSI CD ROM. I will be hooking it up to the MPC to download some programs I created on the MPC over the last few months. Anyway, I imagine that it will be on ID#5 or 6, but what ID is the internal ZIP? Is it ID#1? Or is it in the Floppy location?

The MPC3000 supports SCSI CD-ROM drives for sample LOAD only purposes.

Sample LOAD only in this instance means a connected SCSI CD-ROM drive can be used primarily for import of AKAI S1000/S3000 sample files.

You can make MPC3000 disk images that can be burnt to and loaded from CD-ROM with some major futzing about. ( requires computer, computer software, hex editor, disk imaging software etc ).

You can not save to a connected SCSI CD-ROM drive with your MPC3000, even if the connected SCSI CD-ROM drive has burn capabilities.

As for SCSI CD-ROM unit ID ...

The SCSI CD-ROM drive can be on any ID that is in range of what the MPC3000 supports. Provided that any selected ID doesn't conflict with the MPC3000 internal ID or other connected devices.

Rohan, thanks for all that. I knew most of it. I was just wondering about the ID number of the internal ZIP. Thanks for your help.

the MPC's internal ID is 6, so anything other than 6 should be OK. The Zip should have a switch on the back to switch between ID 5 or 6...switch it to 5 and it should be good.

Internal ZIP drives are different from the External units, they can select any SCSI ID 1-2-3-4-5-6 by using the jumpers.
