it's the geigercounter. you need to flush with cold water until the red light turns off. phunney

Antonym wrote:here's a solution for stutter starters -

resample the first couple bars of your beat. make it a new file and put it on a pad in a new pgm
assign the next pad no sample, but set both pads on the same mute group, or at least target the resampled file w/ the sampleless pad.

use it just like you would start/stop. done!

Well, no. Thanks for the idea though, I'm sure it will help some people.

In my case part of the stutter goodness is that I am start/restarting my external midi patterns as well. So that workaround won't do it.

Another problem: I like to overdub patterns as i go when I'm jamming with friends or for a live type trick. Obviously I wouldn't have time to resample the first bars of that.

Also, it's just plain a lot of unnecessary hassle! I would rather not go thru the 20-30 tracks I have for live use and resample bars, etc. And the old way can be spontaneously done at any point, without having to select a certain program- the start/stop buttons are always quickly accessible.

Anyway, for me and other people who like the start/stop thing, it was an important trick and we would like it back. Just look at it this way, for a vinyl dj, you have the option anytime of grabbing the record and doing a spinback... this was the mpc version, until now.

just resample everything in one file, man, including midi....

i didn't mean resample everything separately. 20-30 tracks would be hell.

give it a try. it is the exact same function, just +10 seconds worth of recording/trimming

"yeah that's not possible! sorry"

yet. it'd be nice though.

meanwhile i'm just scrolling through increments of 100 and hitting pad 13 to loop my slice until it sounds clean. if any samples need it later on i touch em up in trim mode.

The bookmarks in the new PDF manual don't work! this never happened to me with 1.07!!! I hate you Akai!!!

Anyone else had this problem? I'm finding it hard to make beats now, it's just so hard to find out anything in this infernal new manual, i think i'll have to keep coming on here and asking.....

It's true. Really annoying with Preview.
But hey this new manual is so much better than the old one...

Sorry if this was stated already, I didn't see it in search.

I was step-editing a track with the 1000 slaved to Cubases Midi Sync and the samples started playing in different positions all randomly. I didn't stop the pattern, I was editing as it was playing but it was all squelchy. Is this an old bug? Or is it new with 2.1?

No it ain't.

Think a little harder and re-read what I'm talking about:

Here I am jamming along, controlling my evolver, machinedrum and revolution from the mpc... each one has a pattern or sound playing that i have created or tweaked 20 seconds ago, in a live setting... now I would like to take the cool riff I have going and break it down a bit by stop/starting it with different rhythms...

the technique you suggest is not helping at that point.

So, I appreciate the workaround, but there is no reason the 'stop' and 'start' buttons should have less functionality then they once did.

Easily accessible buttons which control major features of an interface are very important features and need to be implemented properly. I don't really appreciate the 'just workaround' approach because actually it distracts attention from the fact this is probably a simple thing that Akai should know about and just fix.

gotcha, i missed that you were talking aobut doing it live

By sleepersriddle Tue Jan 31, 2006 2:57 am
no problem man...

live sequencing is 90% of the reason i bought my mpc so i get worked up about stuff relating to that :) The mpc is my big solution for taking my tracks out live, cause i can sequence my main pieces of gear and phrase-sample the other tracks from gear i don't want to bring.

and i do get a special kick out of starting and stopping my patterns because it's one way to demonstrate to the crowd that you are 'in control' of the sound, not just hitting play and pretending.

sleepersriddle wrote:The biggest problem with the new OS for me is the fact that you can't quickly alternate between STOP and PLAY START to stutter-start a beat or phrase (like someone said.) I used that a lot the last couple of times I played out, and now it's hard to do.

Specifically, when the STOP button is held down, it should still work to press the START buttons, but currently it does not.

maybe i misunderstood what you were doing, but isn't it possible to work around this with a bit of training ? (and using both hands maybe?)

No, there's a delay after you lift your finger off of Stop, before Play will work. This worked smoo0thly in older os, now it donesn't.
