if yall dont have this FREE subscription yall are buggin. I feel sorry for the man that buys scratch instead of recieving tape op for free.

anyway

the new issue has a long interview with Hank Shocklee from Bomb Squad/PE fame. This dude seems down to earth man! He goes into detail about beatmaking with PE, and all the gear hes used. He started on the Ensoniq Mirage! Then he speaks on the s900, the sp12, and the mpc 60. He says how the timing in the sp1200 is more abrupt then the 60 and all that, and mentions the 60s groove. They mention stevie wonder alot in this interview too.

But yo, this probably belongs in off topic, but they wont appreciate it like yall would so im posting this here. This interview was real informative to me, and inspirational.

yall need to subscribe.

Yep, just read that interview too. Its great.

Tape Op is great magazine. No fashion, no BS. Larry Crane has a great magazine. He also produced a Tape Op book of all his top articles from the first couple of years. You have to own this if you are into production. And, as mentioned before, its free for US residents. You can't beat that. Actually, Ad Rock was interviewed a few years back, when he was doing the BS2000 & he used only the SP1200 for writing and some Casios. Also in that mag, Le Tigre wax on about the use of the MPC60 during production. They all got one and swap files on floppies.

Yeah, Tape Op is a great magazine.

The magazine comes in magazine format only. Someone would have to transcribe it and its a bit long.

Support Tape Op and request a copy! Its a very independent magazine and Larry Crane just makes enough money to run the magazine. He makes his loot from running a studio in Portland. The Shins & Elliott Smith have recorded there.
