yes i know this, but i can't see the point of the XV-5080 and other bits of equipment like it.....

deeeeeaaammmm.... that ish is bank! i guess you get wut you pay for. how does the XR compare to a pro 2k and mophat with ROM's? looks like i'll be about 2g's all in if i want to plug the XR.

its a synth module

its basically a keyboard without the keys, takes up less space

Grrrrrrr! Yes i know this, but if you read my post above, you can see what i was on about: that i don't see the point in these sample player things. i mean you could get a sampler, and sample your own stuff, AND get sample cds for it too for some basic sounds like pianos etc, but these ROMpler things seem like a waste of money. To me anyway, i guess they make them because they're popular. :?

Keep in mind that machines like the Fantom XR and other rack mount gear you have use of things like Arps, built in fuctions to control all the Filters and eqs. Its not just sample playback, its total control over the sound to creat a new sound from it.
Its rare that I would use a sound without messing with it to my tatse.
Units like the Fantom XR can have Arps, effects (which are better then the MPC) timestreching among other things. More then a sample Playback.

The rouckmounts gear is inportant as a real good synth in your studio. A Virus TI is real diffrent from the MPC. There are things that can be done on these units that a MPC isnt going to ba able to do.

If the 2500 had Arps and a ZSampler in it with keygroups you may not need anything else. BUt the MPC is not a synth. Thats why people buy things things to enhance the sound and editing.

thanks for the input, i can undersatnd the point of, say, a Virus Ti where it is creating the sound, but these ROMpler things just playback samples with effects, filters and what have you over the top. Surely a sampler would do this, although yes, i would concede that an MPC would need external effects, but something like a Fantom or Motif, if you were just using the sampler side of things, surely that would do?

Yes somthing like the Fanotm X, Motif, Triton can all do this alone, but then you miss out on the Seqencer, Swing, Pads, sounds of the MPC.
Thats why the 4000 is the king in my book, but a 2500 is missing things that some producers may like to have around. The others Fantom Trtion Motif are missing things as well. Thats why there are rack mount versions, they usally dont come with a sqecncer built in. So you can get those quility bread and butter sounds and effects with out the full blown workstation.
Something like the Audity 2000 is a great peice to have with a MPC. Midi sync the Arps and you have lots of options.

First and foremost, an MPC is a sequencer and sampling drum machine. Anything it has more than that is gravy to me. It is the heart/center piece in my studio.

Throw in some keyboards, sound modules, rack mount samplers, etc...then I am set.

As far as samplers and sample playback units...you have options. Roland stopped making rack mount samplers quite some time ago. The brought out the XV-5080 which had sample play back functions for those that had huge libraries of sounds created from older Roland samplers as well as samples from other companies. Not everyone likes to program patches. That is why there are programmers. You can pick from thousands of CD Roms available to load up into the XV-5080. Then can tweak the sounds, add effects, and even combine these sounds with the thousands of waveforms or patches that are standard in the XV or on the SRX/JV expansion boards. The Fantom is another alternative, but it can't stand on its own. It needs a computer to get other sample formats inside it. It does have a sampling inputs to sample your own sounds as well as the usual sample editing tools. The XV doesn't have this function.

Look..there are some that like synths like the Virus..and then there are others that don't care for them that much. I am one of those people. A software plug-in will feel my needs if I want that sound...the same thing can be said about the affectionately called ROMplers....what ever floats your boat.

Its time for Korg to release some new sounds. Until then, I would go with the Fantom.

co-sign didn't like the trition sounds. Fantom is where it is at ;never used a motif but i hear they are nice.

This is what i was talking about! Dropping like £700+ on a bit of kit just for the pre-packaged sounds, i mean, can't you make you own, or do you just not want to? I'm not having a dig, i'd just like to understand the reasoning behind it all.

Thanks in advance for replying/any cheap comebacks :D

Every synth has prepackaged presets..including the analog or analog-modeled synths.

The ROMplers have hundreds of sampled waveforms from real instruments. These companies create hundreds/thousands of presets/patches from these waveforms..which you can tweak the presets to your taste or create your own sounds. You can't do this with the analog synths.

 Dont sleep on the Triton Extreme. That tube is all that. That warmth is unmatched in my eyes. sometimes I sample from there first to get that tube warmth plus it has a extra sound library that comes with it. Mabe its just me but I think it's a perfect combo. They do need some new sounds though. I know it depends on the individual and how YOU rock so let's say its great for me but it dosn't stop there. You'll always be in a search for something different and add on new shyt. I keep saying Im done but it's bullshyt :)
