even though known i have to add ayatollah to the list, just because you dont hear much of the guy but he's always guaranteed to make a beat bang. (anybody know ayatollah's website?...i lost it and cant find it back)

His beats are sick and he is a drummer so he KNOWS rhythm. He does everything in his own studio with Thes One and they process all of their beats on their own equipment. They rep the MPC3000, vinyl and a boatload of vintage effects units. I assume everybody knows Acid Raindrops, but the scratching he does on Outrun and the samples on Take the Fruit are just ridiculous. My alltime fave is Keepin' It Live.

that's so funny. he's by far my favorite producer, jel, and unknowingly i've emulated his setup: mpc1000 using sp404 as a passthrough effects box. plus reason sequenced via mpc and resampled into sp404, as well as scratchlive for detuning and weird pitch modulation.
sidenote:
here's a tip for using strings in reason's nnxt - write your melodies in whatever key your beat is in and then transpose em up so they're twice as high and increase the tempo to twice your original. sample this into your mpc and then pitch it down to the original key.

then sample in lofi mode on your sp404.

play your sample. amazing sound - more realistic than just using it straight from reason, sounds like something off a classical record.

Jel has used the SP1200 almost exclusively, but I read in Tape Op last year that he spent alot of time on Dose One's MPC2000XL for a few projects.

I think the following are good producers:

-Kev Brown is da man!...his I Do What I Do album is smokin
-88 Keys...everything he's done with Mos Def & Black Star rocks!

yeah jel is a live drummer. he uses the mpc2000xl for that. some of his projects you can tell weren't exclusively done on the sp1200, particularly some of his more "Big band" stuff, ie Subtle and 13 and God.

love his solo work though.

ron browz from harlem is one of my favorite unknown producers. he laced the ''ether'' beat for nas and ''whoop yo head'' for 50 cent, and a lot of other joints u probably didnt know it was him. i think he's a problem
