Will the MPC send sysex (Roland), and/or MIDI files?

Meaning...

Instead of keeping my Roland sysex files (patches) on my computer. I was thinking about storing them on my MPC1000, and then loading them, then "playing" them; sending the data to the selected synth. Has anyone done that?

OR...

Will the MPC only accept, or load MIDI files? If so, I could use a sysex to MIDI converter, if there is such thing??

Haven't done it, but the Midi Implementation chart on page 107 in the 2.0 PDF indicates that the sequencer section transmits and recognizes System Exclusive messages.

Absolutely. Sysex is just like any other MIDI data, (a sequence of numbers) and the MPC can record it. Set it to record on a track of some sequence that you've set aside as the patch-loader track, make sure Loop is set to off, (ion case the sysex is longer than the length of your sequence which by default is 2 bars at whatever bpm) and send the Sysex transmission from your synth. (refer to the synth's manual for this) Restart your synth and playback the track and presto! Your patch is reloaded.

I've done it numerous times from my Karma for loading Seq setups (16 instruments at a time, Karma mixer settings, etc) and it works fine.

The MPC1k can also edit Sysex data, at least with the new OS (dunno if it was there in the old one)

If you mean can it store syx files, however, I don't know. You might be able to get away with renaming them .mid and playing them back...
