im very new. im having trouble getting a drum loop to fit correctly. i got this violin sample to fit fine, but any way i try to get the drums to loop correctly there is either a dead space, or it kicks in too early. i know its got to sound vague but i dont know how to make it fit and i would like to. any suggestions.ive mainly been adjusting the tsig and the timing. im brand new and basicly need some one to mention somthing or a few things for me to start messing with. im very new so any help would be appreciated

Mess with the Pitch of the sample and/or the Tempo of your track.

try the bpm match in the edit function and that will tell u what your tempo shud be on to the number of beats your gonna use.

No, you never said what you were using.. That's one reason why I put it in my signature below so people automatically see what I'm working with in case I forget to mention and people STILL ask me..

Sorry to tell you but that's one of the features that 2k doesn't have and one of the reasons why so many people migrated over to the 2kxl.. You will have to do it on PC then load it back into your MPC every single time you process/change it up. A headache yeah I know. Make many variations and then load them all into your MPC, one of them just might be close enough to your vision of a good loop/stretch....

sorry bout that, i guess ill mention it or even make a signature of it, any all i really have is the mpc 2000 and the computer with no programs on it and only a little experiance with reason(not much at all) any advice or a good place to look for some info(im guessing this place and the manual is all i really need to get by) about what software i should be using, i really like this drum sample and want to get it to work.

another thing on the when u press shift +5(trim) and then press f2(loop) u can then press f5(fit) and there is an option that say the loop length will be fitted will that help me out in this case

if you dont have a computer and are using an old school mpc2000, you can still make it work... i did it for years

first take the drum loop you want and take it to the sample trim page (shift + 5)

loop it so it sounds good: no clicks, nothing like that. to do this you might want to hit the fit button on the loop menu (f5) and then adjust from there. you may want to go back and look at the trim screen too, to help so you have the loop right

got the loop right? from the loop screen hit f1 (trim) and then f5 (cut). now go back to the loop screen and turn loop to off.
hit any pad. it should play the loop, but just once and then stop.
now hit the params button to get to the beat loop function. set it for four (im assuming your loop has four beats like (1)boom (2)click (3)boom-boom (4)click). now itll automatically tell you what the bpm of your loop is.

hit main screen and set your sequence for this bpm. now go to program and set the sound you just cut for pad a1. go back to main screen. hit step (f1). hit pad a1 (just once). hit main screen. go over to bars and set it for one bar (it'll ask you if you want to do this so say okay). now hit play. it should play the loop exactly how it was before, but now the sequencer is playing it.

are we on the same page? i know this sounds real basic and you probably already know how to do this, im jusy trying to make sure :).

after you do this, hit program (shift + 5), then params (f2), go over to tune and click on open window. now hit a1. it should say tune = 0, tempo = xx.x bpm. now when you adjust the tune, up or down, it'll adjust the tempo as well. once you do this, go back and change the tempo of the sequence (on the main page) to the new tempo you set in program...

thats a real simple way to (slightly) speed up or slow down beats

of course it isn't the best way, but you should understand how to do that before you start to worry about time stretch or anything like that...

the next step is cutting the beat into segments by hand, but this post is too long already... cheers

sorry i dont get the part adjust from there(how do i adjust from there, and know its good?). or look at the trim screen so i have the loop right
im sure its simple and its just me. but could u elaborate if not fully done allready

any time i hit (trim)then(cut) it gives me only an option to and has arrows from (st)to(end)

^^^^^^^
written while running back and
forth inbetween reading word for word

well allright i tried it and it worked out decent. thanx. i still have like a little click in it. i tuned it (toyed with the tuning) and tuned to 2 sounded a little better. too high or too low and right when the beat loops there is a click(wondering if it is my sample, i got it from a interent loop page, or possibly it not being four beats[ it goes kick- sn-ka,kick,kick-sn,hope that makes sense] but the click doesnt sound like the beat it just sounds like and ending to the beat right before it loops.

any suggestions
but thanx i had no idea

being able to loop without a click just comes with experience. practice and you'll be able to do it fine without much work in a few days.
also try zooming in on the waveform using the open window button when you are on the loop page. you want the loop to start and end in a dead area (where there is no waveform).

one thing that might help is if you copy and paste your original drum beat a few times, so you can get an idea of what it looks like as a whole. To do this go to zone edit, highlight the entire loop, press edit, toggle to the option that says insert sound, choose the sound you are currently working on and press enter. now your loop should be doubled in length.

this helps cause you can start to get the idea of what the waveform "translates" to in sound. once you get experienced with this you'll be able to just look at a waveform and "know" what bits of the waveform are kicks, hi-hats, and snares without having to hear them.

dont worry if this all sounds complicated. in a couple of weeks you'll understand all of this and it'll seem basic...

That "dead area where there is no waveform" is probably what people refer to as a zero-crossing point.. The MPC 2k, 2kxl can't zoom in close enough to show actual sample points but you can go to that zero-crossing "dead zone" and play around in that area with your start and end loop points. That should do it for your click problem, sometimes you can get it down to no click or a very faint click which with music in the foreground will most likely drown it out. I think I saw a tutorial on this site about zero-crossing if I'm not mistaken.. Check the tutorials homie..
