quantizing?

a couple of people now have been saying that quantizing is what i need to do! could sombody tell me what quantizing is, and how do you do it on the mpc2000xl?

Jesus, Mary, Joseph, and Sarah! Doesn't anybody try to figure anything out by themselves anymore?! Again with below basic 101 questions. Pick up a manual or book or something. There are people that actually ask where to plug their MPC into the mixer and what cables to use to hook up a turntable. I don't know what to say if you don't know what quantizing is after having your MPC for even half of a day. I mean, doesn't anybody wonder what all that information conveys on the main screen? And why didn't you ask the people that told you you need to quantize? Too ashamed that you didn't know? I'm here to help. Whatever forum you find me on, I'm always just trying to help. But the rash of "where can I download the latest OS for my MPC?" questions has just been nuts.

Sorry for the rant Mark. As Hermit said, it's timing correction. If you don't understand what the values mean, then I just don't know what to say.

For someone trying to figure it out and NEEDS help staying in time, start out with 1/16, and make a simple beat. If you find that some of your pad hits are too intricate and don't translate into the beat the UP the timing correct to 1/16(3) and make another simple beat, if you need more recording resolution then keep upping it until you max it out (that's same as turning it off).

I feel you, I've been having that right there on my mind for a LONG time.

the 1/8, 1/16, 1/16(3), 1/32 joint is what that means.

sort of aligns your drums to a "grid" i guess? with it off, the way you play it out is the way it will record.

Starting with the timing on 1/16 is best for beginners I think.
