Downloading Samples off the internet

Nah dog, aint nothing wrong with you, you seem to be a purist and there is nothing wrong or crazy about that at all. I have no records or tables, I sold all my dj gear decades ago. After that, just drums machines, asr10, mpc, triton and computer so that's what I do.

There's nothing wrong with embracing technology though.

Me too, why not embrace technology? A month or 2 ago i went on to the itunes music store found some stuff i never heard before and took samples from the 30 seconds previews.

How the hell did you rip the 30 seconds previews? I dont think itunes allows you to save them.

i prefer vinyl.. the feel the sound etc.

but why not make use of the resources made available to you?

for the most part, i find myself downloading things i cant find when i go digging, that ive been looking for.

I didn't rip them, I just hooked up the computer's out to the record in on the mpc and recorded at will.

this is retarded. a good sound is a good sound, whether it came off a betamax, cassette, computer or whatever. ur puttin a limit on your creativity.

How would you be able to tell, when the tracks you have posted are MP3's themselves?

You would have to listen to uncompressed versions of your tracks to have any chance of hearing the difference.

thats what im gettin at. the finished product is all i am concerned about. no matter where the sample came from. if its hot, its hot.

dont get it confused tho. ive been djing for 14 years. ive been collecting music for 16 years. when i hear something i wanna sample. i sample it, regardless of its format..

software can emulate that sound perfectly when configured adequately.

Over the years arguing with people over this topic and what you use to make your beats, I've basically come to a conclusion. It's not what you use, it's how it sounds in the end.

I like to be a purist as much as I can. But say you do strictly sample from vinyl, your beats can still be wack, b/c mainly you're wack. It's not what you use, it's how you use it. I've sampled from tons of things, television, movies, tape recorder, many things, what next? you can't sample from movies then?

Similar to the whole MPC vs. Fruity Loops. I've heard some good junk that was made with FL, and I have never used the prog. and prob. never will, but in the end it's the SOUND, not "what did they use to make this beat?" If it's fresh, it's fresh. I don't support Fruity Loops, but I support good music.

It's a never ending argument that I made my own end to.

I'll just in on this to remind everybody the most common reason producers sampled and started the digger culture:

GETTING THE SOUNDS!!!!!!

It was matter of working around the limits of not having the resources to hire session players or play live instruments. You had a people using any means to get sounds. Records were the easiest and most abundant resource at the time. Kinda like the internet is now.

Just cause it's easier to get sounds doesn't mean it's easier to make good music.
