Downloading Samples off the internet

Im not anti computer...

But aint nuthin like waking up saturday morning and going diggin. I look forward to My saturdays.

uh u can still do that if you sample mp3s or cds. Just sample anything and everything. Purists are gay cause who u trying to impress? when your alone in the studio do you think anyone gives a shit if you sample a freddie hubbard mp3 instead of the wax? I sample from whatever, mainly vinyl though cause im lazy and dont feel like hooking serato up to my sampling rig. Wax is just the quickest way for me to get down, but i have and will sample mp3s cause i got lots of nice and rare shit up in there that you would be hard pressed to find on wax. And i get shit from jazz heads so its not like every producer raped the shit.

I collect madd records.....(I wish I can take a pic of my collection)...Anyways, I still download samples from time to time....Sometimes I want to sample an artist but I cant find that record.....But as soon as I find that sample on vinyl, I pick it up.....So I dont have a problem with it.....I only have a problem with d/l samples if you dont collect vinyl at all.....

well i do it the classic way and buy music on vinyl although i download drum samples off the internet. why should NOT use this source ?
i think it´s ok.

i think it depends on what SAMPLER your going to use... if youre using some vintage equipment (60,SP,ASR,s950 etc...) then i think that it is imperative to actually SAMPLE the sound directly into it so you get the coloration/sound of that particular SAMPLER's AD/DA CONVERTERS... you could always play the dloaded sound and SAMPLE the sources output into the sampler, thats cool too... but i think its kinda a waste to dload some sounds, use a software file converter application, and then just load it into the SAMPLER after the sound has been converted to the right filetype... if you do this you are bypassing the SAMPLING stage of the SAMPLER's process, which means bypassing the A/D CONVERTER which with a vintage/ol school machine is a huge part of what gives these machines their distinct and respective sound... ive done it before(load converted files), but i wouldnt make it common practice in my production routine, not anything im really serious about anyways... on the other hand, if you are using a newer machine that isnt so much heralded for its AD/DA converters or its tone quality or some other distinct feature/benefit that sets it apart from most other equipment, then i think thats cool, do whatever you feel like doing, dont worry about what someone else thinks of your techniques, AS LONG AS YOU ENJOY THE PROCESS... something like the S5000/S6000 which reads WAV files is what im talking about... dload all the sounds, load em in the SAMPLER and your set to go! IMO thats what a piece like the S5000/S6000 is for, STREAMLINING THE SOUNDSCULPTING PROCESS... do what you enjoy, i for one DO DIFFERENT THINGS WITH DIFFERENT MACHINES...
