MPC2KXL vs Pro Tools

Hi there. I've been going crazy researching all this gear and i need some advice to set me straight
I'm into making hiphop, currently i have a Korg Electribe S and an Electribe M. I also have an iBook which is great. I dont know weather i should get the M Box, which is pro tools, or an mpc2kxl? All the music i have produced so far has been made on my "hardware" but not on software, i find it annoying to sequence things in programs such as cubase etc.. so i dont know wat to get? Will i be losing out on the computer possiblities if i get an mpc? Could someone pleaseeeee help me?

pro tools is post production tool and the mpc is prepoduction tool.....the two cant compete cause the both do different things in the audio food chain. You may start something in the mpc but at the end of it all you have to mix it down in pro tools....o yea better check to see if the ibook can handle the mbox...i hear some mac stories.

The MPC is a music production tool where as PT is a more of a music recording tool. You mentioned that you don't like sequencing with softwrae based sequencers so PT probably isn't what you're looking for. When most people think Pro Tools, they think audio multi tracking, while it is capable of midi sequencing, that is not it's strong point. You can make beats with just PT and some software samplers and synths but you'll probably end up throwing your computer out of the window. I would say that if beat making is your primary goal go with the MPC. It's an all-in-one production tool, MPC and some samples and you can bang out tracks!

I'll probably look at getting an MPC1k or a 2Kxl (any suggestions?) and then later get a pro tools system to track down too.

Just one more question, can you actually make full songs wit the MPC? I mean not just drum track, can i sequence a synthersizer from it?

Absolutely! People tend to forget what the M in MPC stands for, MIDI production center. I see the MPC as a midi sequencer more then a sampler cuz the sampling functions of the MPC(4000 excluded) are garbage.

If your on budget get a 1000 or a used 2000. I use my mpc for all of the song.

So is the MPC better than like Logic? Cuz im considering either mpc1k or the logic big box.... i've heard logic is more versatile, but sometimes when u dont have restrictions, you cant really produce good things... know what i mean?

In the time it takes for Logic to seem logical you could have mad 9 songs on the Mpc. Logic is great program, but alot of the functions you may never use. Especially when you are just starting out. I would suggest that you get an mpc (doesn't matter which) and Protools and you can't go wrong. It is the best of both worlds. Learn and perfect those 2 and you will be on your way. Good Luck.
