what makes mpc1k better than other samplers (sp-303/404...)

what i just wanted to say was that it would be cool to have a sampler that is also a powerful sequencer, but not having the monay for gear that could be sequenced if you buy that sampler, it's kinda useless or at least lots of it's potential would not be needed and a cheaper sampler could also do the job.

personally i think it's better to spend out on something that gives you room to expand, than spend less on something that you may find restrictive later on. you could talk to antonym, he has both, and is always raving on about how good they are together, so if you were to say you were going to buy the 1k, i'd say: "good choice, maybe later on you could get the sp404 to have some fun with". if, however you were to buy the sp404, i'd say "damn son, you bought that as your starter sampler? you'll be wanting to upgrade soon".

basically i'm saying jump in at the deep end, you'll learn more, and you won't (or shouldn't) regret your purchase! Hopefully.

but that 404 can't even sequence itself properly..

not with the type of editing procedures you want 2 make a really tight track anyhow.


and i know we hear about madlib or whatever with the sp thing, but i am sure he at least used some other multitrack recorder or something to compile and arrange the different loops and things from the sp.

the 16 levels note stuff would be a lot cooler if it didnt change the length of the sample. i hate being restricted by my high notes being half the length of my low notes.

I agree it can be a pain, but that's just the laws of physics.

For boxes that use real-time timestretching to fix that problem, well personally I think it f*** up the sound too much.

Speaking of which, does the sp404 have a normal 'tuning adjust', or does it only do the 'pitch shift' method?

Cause that's another reason I wouldn't rely on it for everything
