Can someone show me where the midi and usb cables actually go when using reason with my mpc. I downloaded the great video created by Sparq...but i don't know how to physically connect everything correctly.

I have an mpc 1000, and midisport uno, and an oxygen 8. I watched the video but I still don't get what gets connected where. I know that I need two extra midi cables as well.

On the Uno there is a 'to midi in' cable and a 'to midi out' cable. Where do these plug into?

On the oxygen 8 there are 2 midi outs...one says usb and the other says keyboard. Where do these plug into?

On the back of the MPC there are 2 midi ins and 2 midi outs. What gets plugged into these?

Finally...what are midi/sync settings in the MPC?

I know what the reasons settings are from watching the video.

Thanks-

ya i had a weird time when i bought my mpc and setting up multitimbral. i was so new to the game of hardware, anyways u wanna have ur keyboard going OUT to ur mpc IN and from the mpc OUT to ur keyboard IN.

the reason u want ur keyboards OUT to ur mpc IN is so ur mpc can record the midi messages of ur performance wheter it be the tweak of a knob or keys bein hit. u can slap ur dick on ur keys and the mpc will record u slapping ur dick on the keys.

as for ur mpc going out to ur keyboards IN is so the mpc can playback the performance everything u have recorded will be played back. it will play whatever u hit on keys.

to hook this up u just need to take ur uno put in the usb slot and take the OUT end of ur midi cable and hook it into ur mpc IN, and the IN end of ur midi cable to ur mpc OUT.

now in reason ur gonna need someone to help u with this cause i no longer have it on my machine. but let me help u with the midi part on the mpc the way where gonna have this setup is so ur mpc will be master it will be the heart of ur setup. turn on the mpc1000 hit mode select pad9 this will bring up midi/sync.

select f1 for midi active track recieve channel: all
select soft thru: as track
i leave the sequence change by program change off jsut because i have no need for it
do not turn off pad to internal sound to on, cause if u do u wont be able to use ur pads, i havent even gotten to this part yet in the manual this is a new feature that wasnt in 1.7

ok now that where done with the midi part select now the sync part, select f2 sync in turn off sync out AB, i dont know if u hookd in from a or b so where gonna turn it on for ab just so u can quickly play, but um ya if i were u read the manual it goes into idiot proofteachings, when they redid the manual i was shocked how easy it was to understand, i had no moments of derf like how terri shavio expression when reading the triton rack manual. write back let me know if ur havn troubles or write back anyways just because

i was reading your post and I was thinking to myself "this still doesn't make sense."

yeah- i got and oxygen 8 and a midisport uno. In Sparq's vid you can see he has all 4 midi ports connected to something...i just don't know what the right configuration is.

thanks anyway though...it looks like that post took you a while to write.

Thanks dude-

It's playing back reason sounds just like in Sparq's vid.
I haven't messed around with it yet but it's doing what I assumed it would do.
I really appreciate your help.

Okay- so to finalize the setup for everyone with my exact same setup:

mpc 1000
oxygen 8 usb/midi controller
m-audio midisport uno
reason
computer with 2 usb ports
One midi cable

1. Connect the oxygen 8 usb to a usb port on your computer.
2. Connect the one midi cable to the back of the oxygen 8 where it says keyboard/midi out. Take the other end of this midi cable and plug it into the back of the mpc 1000 where it says midi in/2.
3. Connect the midisport uno usb to a usb port on your computer.
4. Connect the uno/TO MIDI IN into the back of the mpc 1000 where it says midi in/1.
5. Connect the uno/TO MIDI OUT into the back of the mpc where it says midi out/A.

The physical connections on the mpc 1000 should have both midi in 1 and 2 connected and midi out A connected. Midi out B is empty.

In the mpc 1000 the midi/sync(mode+pad9) settings should be as follows:

MIDI
Active track receive channel: ALL
Soft Thru: AS TRACK
Sequence change by program change: OFF
Pad to internal sound:ON

SYNC
Sync in: 1
Sync out AB

To get Reason configured properly watch Sparq's vid.
If i got any of this wrong please feel free to make changes.

I have that same card and drive too. It used to work fine when I used a keyboard with it but now with the mpc and all the other stuff it must be too much of a load for it. I just ordered a M-Audio Delta1010LT for $200. You should look into that card/interface. They just went down $100 from $300.
