help getting started music producing

hey all,
i was looking for some advice. I was recommended the Pro Tools edition for windows. it is supposed to be the full version, with around a $500 dollar cost or $600. the producer ive been talking to has also recommended an MIDI keyboard, also with a MPC2000XL or a MPC1000.

could someone tell me where to get a decent price on Pro Tools for windows, and maybe give me a link to what the real box and stuff look like for that?

also, a good place to get teh MPC2000XL or MPC1000 for a decent price, id rather have the 2000XL but the 1000 is fine as well

Well first off... Your not going to get the full version of protools for $500

Secondly I think the mpc1000 might be the right choice for you. Its dope for the price and its packed full of features

what kind of pro tools will i get for around $500-600

also, please recommend a good MIDI keyboard, that does most things

woudl it be the LE or the mpowered edition?

how much is the whole thing?

whats the diff beteween these 3 ?

M Powered and LE are practically the same, le works with digi hardware and M Powered works with M Audio hardware...

if you take the time to actually READ the info on those pages you'll figure it out....

so i shuold get teh LE version of pro tools, and the MPC 1000, with a good MIDI keyboard.

we've got 2 of those things out of the way,
now its MIDI keyboard time.

would a Korg Triton be any good?

also, is this all i need to start out? is my comp good enough?

its an AMD athalon 4000+ processor, 1 GB ram, onbourd sound, ATI Radeon X800XL video card

we cant tell you what type of keyboard to get u need to go check them out cause they got different sounds.

IMO the all the big name keyboard sounds are oversaturated and played out.

The motif has a more gritty sound for hip hop
The Fantom has more realistic sounds I like the effects on the fantom too
I realy dont like the triton

I dont want to cunfuse you or anything by giving you too many options but if you got a controller keyboard for about $200 (no osunds in it) you could get a sound module (like the motif, triton, fantom rack) or you could get a piece of software like Reason which is packed with sounds and you can add to it as much as you want for a small amount of money. You have no real need for a second hardware sequencer in the triton if you have the MPC. I hope that helps.

On a PC you gotta lose that Athalon processor and go with a pentium....You can switch but it requires you swap out your motherboard as well..look to drop 300 - 400 on the task. Some may say this is not necessary and all I can say to that is go with the Athalon until you cant take any more. Athalon is OK until you start dealing with multimedia files then the two processors deal with files differently, causing the same speed athalon to seem to run much slower.....I cheaped out and bought two athalon machines to handle the non-musical tasks of my studio. When one of the pentiums went down, I tried to just consolidate and incorporate an Athalon machine (same speed, same RAM etc.) into my setup. Noticably slower. to the point of being unusable...anyway...just my.02

well, if i wanted a fast processor for gaming and also a decently fast one for music editing and stuff like that, would i be looking at a Pentium or an Athalon, also, what kind of intel processor? a pentium 4? or a pentium D?

if you go with a PT setup get an Athlon dual core system, proven better performer with PT Le....

if you decide on an intel system go with the Pentium D(dual core), both will run PT le just fine...
