sending control changes

Yo! I've searched the forum and cant seem to find an answer so here goes with my problem!
Can the MPC2000 send control changes using the note variation slider to another sampler? I basically sequence on the MPC but use an Emu sampler for all my sounds so I want to do filter sweeps on my samples in the Emu via the MPC, is this possible?

if you're using an MPC2K, the answer is no. I tried to hook up something like that, and the capability is not there.

don't know about the XL, though.

the only thing i ever found on a 2000xl was being able to send control change automation TO the mpc in effect automating filter sweeps and pith changes to a single pad from an out board sequencer (logic on a powerbook) however further looking in the manual revealed that the note variation slider only receives but does not transmit data. also apparent when recording in midi data from the mpc to sequencer. the slider data neglects to transmit.

the only suggestion i have is to play with assigning control change to nv slider (or something like that in the slider window) thats the control change channel essentially 9 and 16 are both general channels. set them to be the same on both units (mpc and emu) who knows you might have a happy accident. god knows i use the shit out of that slider in a way i dont think akai ever intended.

feel fry to play around like coco and waste your time, but the real answer is no. it doesnt send CC's. you can of course write them into step edit but im sure you know that, and it can be labourious.

I've been lucky to have a really cool master keyboard/synth from the late 80s called the DPM3SE. It was made by Peavey and has (among other things) a great feature that comes in handy with the MPC: the sliders on the front panel can be freely assigned to any controller number. The MPC sequencer can receive all controllers and NRPNs. So it's a no-brainer to assign a slider on the DPM to cc#74 (filter cut off) and off i go filter sweeping to my heart's content.

can you assign multiple sliders or just one? caus ei seem to only be able to send one control change to the mpc slider from logic. i can automate a filter sweep or pitch shift to whatever the last pad played was but cannot change pad assigned to the slider by way of automation or effect assigned to the slider, any luck?

p.s. for the other guy, i dont consider playing around every now and again wasting my time. thats how you stumble onto great sounds. i doubt i use that slider the way akai intended and have come across many great sounds by accident.

This is really cool. The DPM as an assignable slider on the front panel plus input for a continuous controller pedal which is also freely assignable. You can also use the mod wheel and remap it to whatever you want in the MPC sequencer. Bear in mind: you are not sending information to the MPC slider. You are recording control change information into the sequencer that will be "played" to whatever sound source you have assigned to the sequencer track you've written to. The way to change the pad receiving the data from the slider on the DPM is to switch sequencer tracks.
