MPC 2000 and a compressor

I'm new on compression, got a few questions.

How do you connect a MPC 2000 with a compressor? What output goes into what?

Do you just compress a little bit of the drums and the main loop (looped Sample)?

What models are the best compressors available? I was thinking about getting a DBX 166.

Any help will be appreciated.

Connect the Audio Out on MPC to the Audio In on Comp, Then Audio Out of Comp to Audio in on PC or Mixer.

For a full kit compress lightly, with a soft knee about 4:1 ratio with about -8db of compression. For a single channel you can afford to compress more heavily... 8:1 with around -16db threshold...However, there are no rules!!

The DBX are pretty much the industry standard so yep on that. I copped a Behringer Composer Pro as it offers more for the Price such as Gate Limiter.

What's the advantage to one of these to say....... software like Soundforge that offers the same compression parameters that you explained earlier and much more.

Some people swear by their hardware stuff when it comes to compression and EQing, thats all. There is some magic in a good valve compressor.

Thats the illest digital compressor i have heard so far, easier to use than the Waves stuff, and in my opinion it sounds a lot more phat. I heard some people who swear by their valve compressors saying only good things about the plugs on that website.

And the best thing is: it's freeware!
