sticky. definitely. i'd have done this if i had a camera. this is all exactly as i recommend doing. how did your paper/graphite gluejob turn out man?

i'll have to repair pad #6 soon. only the left half responds, so i suspect the graphite is fractured down the middle or on the entire right hand side. instead of glueing the pieces together, i'd rather buy new graphite/carbon (or whatever the hell they use) and replace it with thicker, durable material. it makes no sense to spend money on replacement pads, especially if the design hasn't been corrected and improved.

plus shipping... that's murder!

i bet i can cop a sh!tload of replacement graphite for a hell of alot cheaper than it costs to purchase a whole pad. glueing the fractured pieces together is a good idea, but i'm not sure how long it'll hold up. if i can find more durable material, it would be better to do this repair once, as opposed to several times.

but anyway, much respect to everyone that took their pads apart and paved the way for us do-it-yourselfers.

i've searched a bit for graphite. kind of hard to google, but i'm getting close.

i'm guessing off the top of my head that home depot or lowes might have it. i havent checked yet, but i'm sure it's fairly easy to obtain.

yeah thanx Ant, mate I got a strong feeling it isn't actually graphite..it seemed too flexible...mine almost peeled off like it was a plastic based substance...a polymer/polyurethane, I dunno I don’t work for Akai but if someone could find out what it is that’d be dope…if it is graphite, then perhaps making a new one out of graphite paint is the way to go??? Also as mentioned above I dunno about making it thicker, seems as tho the function is to “short” out the PCB underneath delivering a varying amount of “short”…making it thicker might fukk up how the sensor reads the pressure? Dunno again last time I checked I didn’t work for AKAI otherwise I would prolly just steal me a 4000 and be done with it ahahha...Ant, my paper re-construction went smoothly, it was hard to keep taking photos and fix the MPC at the same time…all up it turned out perfect.
Weird cause I’m not used to using those pads hardly at all..but eventually it had to be done cause the LOAD function is off that PAD2 so for those out there better check what function your gonna lose… I def recommend Oven Window sealent glue its firm but really flexible, I also pulled the first attempt out after 1 hour of the glue setting, so its possibly a perfect glue for the PCB in that it doesn’t make a 100% bond.
