Using a mixer...

Hey, i see a lot of people hooking up their gear to mixers, can you hook it up so that you can control all the tracks volumes separately on an external mixer? I tried looking but didnt find it...

Depends if you have the 8-outs and how many track you're trying to control.

well, i have the MPC1000, so i think either 4 or 6 outs and i would like to control 8-16 tracks... so impossible?

you almost answered your own question.

well the mpc 1k does have an internal mixer. But based on the outs of your machine and the ins on your mixer will determine how many sounds you can control. I hope im answering your question.

Ok, so, for every out you can control one track? correct? so since the mpc1000 has either 4 or 6, its stuck at that many controld? Ya, i know it has an internal m ixer, but im not a huge fan of it

most people I know hate the internal mixer, I don't.

do it, it's worth it.

i get different results by bringing 6 audio channels from my 1k to my mixer.

for instance its way better for jamming live with my friends because its so quick to reach over and say, turn the bass up or down.

and the 3-band analog eq on my mixer sounds different (actually better) than any eq in the mpc.

and analog mixing has a bit of a nicer sound then digital mixing anyway imho.

and.. using the aux sends on the mixer makes it easy to add external f/x onto selected trax from the mpc.

So you would suggest to get the mixer for the 6 tracks? There is no way to expand that with a splitter or anything... is there? Ya i know im an idiot...

Do you have any other external gear or software synths? Keep that in mind before buying a mixer, since you'll need more than 6 inputs, if thats the case.

Well, I figured out the whole midi set up and Im setting up logic and and a fantom-S to operate through midi into my MPC1000... do I need to have a mixer to do this or will it operate simply through the mpc? In order to make everything work that is...

You'll definitely need a mixer. Take into account how many outputs the Fantom has, as well as your computer's soundcard/audio interface.

ok, cool... so basically you want to get one w/ the same amount of inputs as everything you have as outputs?

yeah, but it cant hurt to buy a mixer with a few extra inputs for when you decide to expand. otherwise, you could always buy a second mixer and chain them together if you need more inputs in the future.
