SOS. Send help. External SCSI hard drive problems.

I ordered a External SCSI hard drive. I connected the hard drive and it does not recognize that the device is connected. On the format menu, nothing. Is there software I should install (software that makes a device work with my MPC2kxl). I know my way around the MPC a little but still a beginner. So I could just be doing something wrong. Help.

1st: are you sure its a scsi and not a parallel drive?
2nd: do you have the terminate on?
3rd: in the device select did you turn from floppy to scsi?
4th: did you select the proper scsi i.d ? should be 5 or 6
5th: is there a disk in the drive?
6th: does the green and yellow lights come on when you turn it on and insert a disk?
7th: do you have zip power adaptor or an alternate. i tried to use a universal once but the dc output didn't match what was needed for the drive
8th: can you hear the drive running? when a disk is in the drive you hear the heads turning and it stops after you eject it.
all of this should cover it.

why must the scsi id be 5 or 6 ? In fact it should NOT be 6 since that is the scsi id of the MPC.
How do you insert a disk in a harddisk? FYI he's talking about a harddisk NOT a zip drive.


@DAMIIT Boy: what type of harddisk are we talking about (Brand, type, type of scsi connector, size) ?

All the ? ur asking I have been thru, I do have me zip drive terminate on setup last in the chain. The funny thing about this is I have it setup from the MPC to hard drive to zip drive and I can still read the zip drive, but where is the hard drive. If I can get this system to work I would be off and running. Thanks for the get backs, but if u think you have a answer email me @ [email protected]. I assume your zip is set to scsi id 5 and termination on?
I also assume your harddisk is not terminated?
What scsi id is it set to ?

One thing that worries me is the size of the drive, I don't know whether the drive is really compatible with the mpc2kxl, I know for sure that you won't be able to access all 50 Gigabytes of the drive.
