insufficient memory?

new boy here - just unpacked my mpc1000 with standard 16mb memory and 32mb cf card and have just working on my first song and when i try to load a new kit into the song it says insufficent memory.

come on - its only my frigging first 12 bars on the machine!!!

what exactly is it short of memory of? ram or that awful 32mb cf card?

and i am only using the factory samples. oy vey

u need 2 upgrade your ram to a 128mb dude, look at the stickys

read the manual and find out about the autoloading of preset samples.

Maybe they are taking up all of your 16mb memory.
Maybe you should clear that outta there
and start from zero samples, load only the ones you like.

out the box you only have around 5mb of mem to play around with. until you install the 128mb.

thanks for the replies - whats the point of selling a machine that doesnt work? its like selling a car without a steering wheel. k i will go and get some more ram, sheesh.

whats with the two folders on my 32mb cf card. one says internal and one says autoload, are they the same as whats loaded on the machine itself?

where in your original post did you mention something didn't work? for you to make that comment. and the two folders have different kits in them. all you have to do is view the folder's content from your computer. you will see the difference.

As stated before by LampDog, The MPC comes with some pre-ready sounds and sequences. Your not gonna want to use those for anything. Usually you just wanna start sampling sounds and loading them on. You can use the factory sounds, but they aren't going to help you out a lot. Upgrading the memory to 128mb and clearing out the autoloading stuff is essential to start out. After that start looking into getting a sound module to sample from like a Motif ES Rack or a Fantom XR.

Personally I like keyboard so my setup is...
MPC1k with 128mb ram. (used as sequencer / sampler)
Fantom X6 for a lot of my sounds (except drums I usually buy or sample these)

Also this setup allows me to either play with the keyboard or pound on the MPC. Either way the beats are hot.
