go to ascap.com and there you can get a pdf form to fill out and mail in. And they will consider you for acceptance or not. If you have ever perform your music in front of a crowd, you're in... Just call them and they will let you know... Its that easy...

but wat if you never have performed your music in front of nobody. i mean i dont do live music of course u know that. i make beats lolz. so would i just send in a track disc with a couple tracks. and if so where do i go to from there. like why do people register with ascap if they havent sold a beat yet.

Man u dont have to had performed in front of a crowd. Im registered with BMI all I did was download the pdf. send it in and they sent me an exceptance letter. I think a person is ready to register when u feel like you are getting close to getting something placed on radio tv or album ect...

do they get you a publicist that will shop around in your music or do they have people that go on that site that are rappers or singers that look for people with new beats or seomthing. curious about that

All they do is track home many times your joint got played, than they cut u a check at the end of the year. They dont promote your music from what i understand

oh true. so i should only registered when my music is played somewhere. what if it was played at a club my friends djs with. could i tell thenm that and get a check cut from that.

No u shouldnt wait till your stuff gets played. Try to do it 6 months in advance because you need to fill out like a registration form for each song. As far as getting paid if a freind spins your record at a club, I dont think that counts.

well i work at a pawn shop and some cat that makes tracks for pretty ricky and them cats if you heard of them there videos on mtv and all the other channels . well this dude says that bmi is better than ascap does anybody kno of this

Im down wit BMI and a couple industry connects recommended BMI also. The plus with ascap is that they have 24 hour customer service. Ascap also gives you a cool membership card. The down side from what I hear is that they are slow in processing checks.. And a freind of mine says sometimes they miss marks.
