Not sure if I should keep the 1000!

I'm not sure if I should keep my 1000 after all. This is my first piece of equipment and never had anything I can compare it to directly. I need some advice from the more senior members that have or have had both. I just want to be able to have something that I can learn on, but also something that I can make professional quality tracks on once I do master it. I admit it I don't have a lot of money right now and cannot afford anything more than the 1000. Should I keep this thing or take it back and save my money for one of those new blue 2000xl's? What do you think? Cause I'm really not sure folks!

the mpc 1000 has everything you need to do the same kind of pro beatz you would be able to do on a 2KXL.

I'd suggest you stick with it a while, if you can't get anything going with the 1k I doubt that the 2kxl will make a difference. Seeing as how you're short on cash the 1k seems to be a wiser choice as it has stuff that would cost you another 300-500 on top of the 1200.00 price tag for the 2kxl.

Is it just me or is it funny that everyone who doesn't like there MPC or has taken back all have less than ten post. Things that make you go Hummmm.

And have been on the site for less than two days.

Stashy it isn't something that makes you go HMMM. It's perfectly logical we are new to the game and are not very sure of things. That's why I wrote "Lost in MPC Land" at the bottom of my post. I WANT to make it clear that I am new so I can get help from senior members. Everyone was new and unsure about the MPC at some point. And yes having only a few points for posts can indicate someone not only new to the forum but new to MPC's and production as well. I am new to it all. Have less than ten posts and don't know how to really work the damn thing yet, but I am here to learn. So before you turn your nose down on me realize that you were once in this position and also realize I am here to learn and all I'm doing is asking for advice.

Furthermore having a lot of posts could just mean you like to spend a lot of time on the net making posts rather than beats, and you could be just re-iterating the same ISH that 20 people have already said here, and don't know what the hell your talking about. Stashy do you feel better about yourself now....huh.....do...ya...do...ya...lotsa postin' big fella you!

try to learn the machine.
you could try to reproduce songs you like to get to know the basics.
you're new to this so hold on.
i can't wait till i get my mpc1k.
till that time comes i'll be fruity looping.

I got the turntables, I've been record collecting for years. And since I've stopped the autoload function on the MPC. New vistas have opened up for me. Having all the pre loaded crap in there really messed me up. I'm starting to get this thing. I'm just wondering about whether I should hold out for a 2000xl or something because there are so many people who say it's the be all and end all for Hip Hop production. I'm just worried I'm missing out on something because of my ignorance about the other machines.

And Stashy if you didn't mean anything personal about me I apologize I get a little too heated when I feel strongly about something.

just stick to your mpc1k.
the usb & cf-cards are better and faster.
and if you want to timestretch you can just put your sample in cool edit pro.

That's true! The USB feature is really helpful, and the 1000 does sound PHAT! I heard that the 2000xl takes for ever to timestretch anyway, so it may be better just to delegate that task to cool edit pro. Thanks Big-Slick

If it helps you out at all, I agree with big-slick and the rest.
I used a 2000 for a long time and never had the flip screen or the time stretch or the flash rom. I sold it to jump on the 1000 band wagon and haven't looked back yet. Its a solid box and am very happy with that move.

You getting the MPC was a great idea for your first box.
Personally I used drum machines for a long time... 808's 909's DR.-5's and the lot before a friend told me about the MPC. The best move ever made, I feel.

Hope it works out for you bruv, stick with it. Its just cold feet. The thought of something bigger and better will always be with you not that you got the gear bug.
