connecting a keyboard

Ok, I dont know why, but im having some trouble connecting a Keyboard to my MPC using the midi connection. Im triying to record some riffs with the keyboard to the mpc, however, when i attach it and strike a key on the key board, all i hear are the samples that are loaded on to the mpc pads, not the actual notes i intend to.

Umm, that's what it's supposed to do, isn't it? MIDI only transports the note information, not the actual sounds.

Stilo.

Connect the audio output of your keyboard to the stereo inputs of the MPC. Turn the MPCs input thru on. This will allow you to sample your keyboard.

did u change ur mpc to the correct midi settings A-D (although C and D are not working properly right now)

to which ever midi channel the keyboard is plugged into

he might wanna run that through a mixer first then into input through right, if he has or plans on using other external modules in the future

If he has a mixer and other sound modules/keyboards.....yes, it is an option. But since he only mentioned his keyboard, the basic info I gave him will most likely help him today

I have a similar more detailed question about connecting a keyboard. I connected a Virus Indigo with midi cables. Virus out>mpc in, mpc out> virus in. The Virus and the MPC are connected to a mixer, so I'm not talking about audio here. I want to record midi from the virus keyboard while it's playing sounds and while the mpc is playing. The problem is that the keyboard keeps playing the internal sounds of the mpc which I don't want. I read the manual and tried the Midi settings in the mpc and virus. I can't figure out the proper way of doing this, call me doopid.

How can I play and record midi notes from an external keyboard without triggering the MPC's sounds?

I believe I did it before but now it isn't happening. I thought changing DRUM to MIDI did it, but it makes little sense for the mpc to also play drum sounds on midi tracks IMO.

the active track in the main window of the mpc recieves the midi
data from your virus and "sends" it to the selected program and to
the selected midiout (in the lower right corner of the display.)

if you record a synthline and want it to be played back by the virus
you have to select the midiout and to set the pgm in the mainwindow to "off".

with a keyboard midi controller i just connect keyboard in (out) and
mpc in (in) and it must working,right? I have see this connexion in the
manual.I have two modules and a mixer,i want connect them to the mpc
fo recording all my beats in mpc and recording in audio in my computer to
cubase sx 2.How can i do that?

connect your masterkeyboard to one of the midi ins of the mpc.

connect midiout A from mpc to the midi in of your first module.
connect midiout B from mpc to the IN of the second module.

if you want to record midinotes to be played by the second module,
select a new track and select pgm:OFF and Midi:1B.
now make some music!

Recording: if you have a multi in/out recording interface
you can record thew mpc drums and the two synth parts all at the same
time to three audiotracks. Therefor no sync is needed.
if you have just one input on your interface you have to
record drums and synth one after another and sync is needed
to keep the tracks in time!

what is multi in/out recording interface?u mean midi interface(i got one wit
4 in & 4 out) or audio interface,and u tell me fo rec the second modules to
put 1b and fo the first it's 1a?right?.For recording sample it's the same thing
than drums?and when i must sync,i must go in cubase and select midiclock?

i meant a multi a/d converter audio interface for recording audio.
midi connection as you mentioned is ok.
its easy: you plug a synth to midi out A , then to play it select midi out A
in the main window.the numbers (1-16) refer to midi-chanels, so you can connect a synth to midi A and another soundmodule to the midithrough of that synth.now you have to configure the synth to receive on chanel 1 and the module to receive on chanel 2. in main window midi:1A will play the synth only and with midi 2A you can play the module. in theory you can connect
64 synthesizers to your mpc. 16 to each midiout.
recording samples: i dont understand your question.
i usually record samples to my computer and transfer them to mpc via usb.
sync: im not working with cubase, so i cant explain in detail what to do.
you should find something like syncsettings. activate the midiclock input
and select the correct mididevice. then in the midi sync settings of mpc
select the output that is connected to your computers midi-interface to
send midiclock.

I just figured out using another PGM like that last night. I was using No. 1 though. Thanks for the info.
