has this happened to anyone else? my data wheel seems only to spin one way(clockwise) cant seem to go bacwards which means using the dam thing is nearly impossible!. just wondering if any one knows what it looks like from the inside? or has any one fixed one?

ugh, i was afraid of this. i'll see what i can do to help you because i'm sure it's gonna happen to others.

tell me - what were the precursors of this catastrophe? did you notice anything bad beforehand? funny noises, irregular spinning, unpredictability?

i've opened my mpc up many times and i've seen the data wheel bit. i don't know what the problem might be but i plan to find out.

peace

basically it just seems to spin out of control and is very unpredicable. makes it really hard to trim, and name stuff . the wheel seems to make a clicking noise. do be honest it is doing my head in!

please be more specific. were there any precursors? unpredictable behavior BEFORE it broke?

Akai told me to use contact cleaner from guitar center to clean the area near the data wheel. It doesn't need to be taken apart just sprayed while the data wheel is turned because the problem may just be dust.

Call them

Ok it works and it stops the data wheel from switching from selection to selection its called Deoxit D5 Power Booster. You buy it at Guitar Center.
If you have any any questions call Sean at Akai
