Recommend a solid Hardware Sampler to use along side a 2KXL

Excuse me, but i just said that you will have to deal with latency, something that you didnt mention in your text.

Indeed, my computer is crap, but well, i use hardware. This thread is about hardware samplers. and may i quote Bebop, who opened up this thread (which you didnt care to read it seems):

But as I understand machines like the Emu mentioned, can have have 8 outs. I get how that works...just like the outs on the 2K..

In a computer based system, are'nt the outputs limited to what's on your interface (be it delta or what-not)

That being said, it is the practice with something like Sampletank or the others, where your editing the sound, messing with it in ways that sofware is capable of (and the 2KXL is not) and THEN bringing it back into something like the 2Kxl to trigger ??

As a recap...I'm wanting a better sampling machine...I'm scared to get into the 4K mess...I love my 2kxl (when it's not in the shop )

Ther other year I was in this position.
I looked around and what I wanted was effects and loooooong samples and all on a budget.Today you can get a sampler from 3 years ago for cheap.Check ebay.Oh and by the way there is some awsome deals on the E-Mu webside.I just picked up the best mashine I could get for 600, and at the time I ended up with a A5000. It works great.And it got oodles of effects and bells and whistles.However I think that a emu with effects would be even better.Pick up a nice used one so you wont loose to much money if you wont like it.

the "bug" was in the opperating system, which as anyone can tell you, was Sh!t when released... however, the OS did have two years of revisions before being discontinued, so thats what i meant by calling it a "mature" product... from what i understand, a s5000/s6000 with the "final" OS works like it should.
If im wrong about this, i have no problem with someone pointing it out to me, and would actually appreciate it, cause, like i said i was thinking of getting one as they have a very good spec and are dirt cheap used (when compared to anything else with a similar spec). plus the usb expansion is very tempting, especially for anyone that uses soundforge or recycle plus they all come with 8 outs standard plus they can play 128 programs, plus...

but im serious with what i said, if mpc producer is right and the "finished" os is still buggy (enough to be unusable) then id like to know. id like to hear from someone who has used one, however, as we all have opinions but that dont help me here .

ps, bebop, i didnt mean for you to take my first post as talking smack or berating you. we are all just learing here (and the cats who think the aint are in for perhaps the hardest lesson).

I did go out there saying something negative...so I should at least qualify the sources.

And you bring up a good point...is the OS solid on the S series.

I was reading an old SOS November 2003 with Mouse on Mars being interviewed. Descartes...you should check out this interview...these guys use OLD samplers and swear by them...the Emu stuff especially..plus he was quoted saying how much he loves this old Ensoniq DSP he uses (he could'nt remember the name..but by the description it's a DP4 (I have one!!!)

So I'm learning.

I do want more of a sampler (and sequencer) then is in the 2KXL...and I have a 4K coming tomorrow from Sweetwater to try out for a month. That uses the Z8 sample engine which...from what I've learned..is kick-ass. I might be done with my search if this 4K proves worthy.

A better sequencer AND a kick ass sampler. That's all I need.

yeah, i read that too... i think they were using s1000s. i saw one (keyboard style) at my local used equipment store (trade up music, if you are ever in portland, or check it out) for only 200 (with 8 outs and a velocity sensitive keyboard). ive had bar tabs that cost more (for nights i cant remember) but i passed 'cause of the interface options: i didnt want to save things to floppy disks, thats why im so pro s5000/s6000.
they have the best interface option ive read of with a computer (where i keep lots of my samples).
you are familiar with sound on sound, right? check out the review of "aksys." (i cant remember the issue but you can search the website).

now that aksys card goes for a hundred bucks on ebay + 600 buck s5000 = (what seems to me) a good deal (when you think that you can also save recycle files as aksys files in recycle 2.0). see what i mean????

ps aksys works with the mpc4000 so you may have the best of both worlds there...

I'm down with y'all on the hardware sampler thing. The Emu samplers are amazing and the S5/6000 can't be beat for the money they're going for these days. A slightly off topic tip for those who just need good plug in and go "bread and butter" sounds: the Emu P2000 series and the ROM expansion cards! Oh MAN!! The heart of my studio is my MPC 2000XL plus the Virtuoso 2000 with the Protozoa card. Slamming! Talk about the fastest most efficient production environment possible. Quick and dirty sampling/sample manipulation with the MPC and great ready to go libraries of brilliant all around sounds in the Virt 2000.
